SummaryThe Vocational Instructor is an academic programs position. The focus is to create a vocational technical and academic environment that provides inmates/detainees the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform vocational tasks.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- The Vocational Instructor provides instruction to inmates/detainees for various labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration and practical exercises.
- The Vocational Instructor maintains records including testing, daily offender work, attendance and general record keeping.
- Assesses educational needs of inmates, develops lessons plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.
- The Vocational Instructor administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
- The Vocational Instructor counsels students concerning their performance, behavior and personal problems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Competencies Required
If you have a natural ability for working in a team with a wide variety of members and you're truly driven by the joy of seeing your students thrive, this is the right job for you. Apply if you have:
- High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of work experience OR Bachelor's degree can be substituted in lieu of 5 years' work experience.
- One (1) year to obtain a valid teaching certification from the state Department of Education or comparable authority required.
- Journeyman's licensure (as a Plumber).
- Has completed nine semester hours of specialized professional studies credit from a regionally accredited college or university.
