Summary:
The Yard Hostler is responsible for safely handling and maneuvering tractor trailers on the yard and within an area.
Job Duties: -
· Moves trailers at customer facility
· Shuttles tankers, hoppers, and containers
· Communicate with the Inbound and Outbound Lead’s on trailer move prioritization
· Documents and performs trailer moves on both the Inbound and Outbound operations.
· Transports trailers to keep refrigerated units fueled
· Performs yard checks throughout the day for Inbound and Outbound
· Responsible for insuring seals are on applicable trailers
· Tracks trailer inspections
· Assist customer’s carriers with instruction and direction while on the yard.
· Maintains the cleanliness of grounds
· Verifies and/or reports damages
· Supports Yard Assistant and Mechanic with maintenance duties
· Other duties as required and assigned
Requirements:
· High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency
· Minimum 1 year related experience and/or training
· CDL preferred
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual
Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance and must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold including climates consistent with outside weather conditions.
