Qualifications:
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR 0150: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Geographer, all grade levels.
A. Degree in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.**OR
B. A combination of education and experience-- courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semesters hours in geography or related fields, as shown in "A" above, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above.
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR 1301: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Physical Scientist, all grade levels.
A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

B. A combination of education and experience--education equivalent to one of the majors shown in "A" above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science, engineering, or mathematics) that included at least 24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical science and/or related engineering science as described above, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above.
BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR 1373: Applicants must meet the requirements outlined in either A or B below to satisfy the basic requirements for Civil Engineer/Hydraulic Engineer, all grade levels.
A. Degree: land surveying; or civil engineering with a surveying option/emphasis. The civil engineering major must have included at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in any combination of the following: surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and survey analysis and adjustments.

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in land surveying or civil engineering as described in paragraph A, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

C. The basic requirements for this series may be fully satisfied by a current registration as a land surveyor in a State, territory, or the District of Columbia obtained by written examination. Such registration must have been obtained under conditions outlined in the National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEE) Unified Model Law for Registration of Surveyors. Applicants wishing to be considered under this provision must show evidence of registration based on successful completion of the written examinations. Registrations granted prior to adoption of a registration law with qualification requirements equivalent to the NCEE Model Law by the State, territory, or District of Columbia are not acceptable under this option. To be considered equivalent to the NCEE Model law, registration laws must include the four options listed within the NCEE Unified Model Law in the section specifying "General Requirements for Registration" as a Professional Land Surveyor.
For GS-12:
In addition to the basic requirements as stated above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-12 level: One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Examples of such experience may include: leading elevation, surface reflectance and surface temperature field campaign activities including planning and coordinating campaigns with multiple personnel and agencies; evaluating and validating lidar point cloud data quality; writing, publishing documents and data, and presenting information to stakeholders and the scientific community; managing projects including scope, schedule, cost, and risk as well as managing contract work including generation of statement of objectives, cost estimating, reviewing and evaluating contractor technical proposals and deliverables, and overseeing financial performance.

As a SURVEY AND FIELD CAMPAIGN LEAD within the EARTH RESOURCES OBSERVATION SCIENCE CENTER, some of your specific duties will include:
- Leads the USGS EROS lidar National Geospatial Program (NGP) activities specifically in lidar point cloud data quality and validation. Leads lidar data quality and validation actives across interagency projects.
- Leads elevation and topobathymetric field campaign activities. Leads surface reflectance and surface temperature field campaign activities.
- Performs project management activities for Elevation and Cal/Val activities including scope, schedule, cost, and risk. Oversees the Technical Services Support Contract for EROS in-situ measurement and validation work including generation of statement of objectives and independent government cost estimates, reviewing and evaluating contractor technical proposals and deliverables, overseeing financial performance, etc.
- Maintains all field equipment and any associated software/firmware controlled within the associated projects for the elevation, surface reflectance,
and surface temperature measurements, as well as obtaining and staying current with required credentials, certificates, or training required for the operation of field equipment, including UAS piloting.
- Prepares, presents, and documents project progress for various stakeholders.
Physical Demands
Multi-day field work will require hiking, climbing, lifting and transportation of equipment. A moderate amount of travel is required, usually but not always within the United States and via commercial airline carriers or government provided motor vehicles. There will be contractor site visits required where climbing, bending, stooping, and walking are required and where special clothing such as clean room gowns or hard hats may be required. This position requires control and use of a UAS device for which visual acuity is required. Lifting and carrying of up to 40 pounds is required.
Work Environment
The work environment involves in the field risks or discomforts including wading in water, typical heat and humidity. Driving across country hauling a trailer may be required. A valid United States driver's license is required. When not in the field, work is generally performed in an office environment; however, the incumbent will be required to attend briefings, give presentations, participate in task forces, study groups, etc., where work will be performed in other than a typical office setting.
