About the College of Computing:

The College of Computing was established in 1990 as the first such College at a public university and the second in the United States. Since that time, the college has grown into a world-class leader in research and education. The graduate CS program is currently ranked 6th and the undergraduate 5th nationally by U.S. News and World Report. The College consists of five Schools that provide specialized and general computing education to the entire campus. With over 16-degree programs, including its world-renowned online MS in CS, we believe the College to be the largest Computing unit in the United States and, as such, one of the largest producers of computationalist at all levels and of all demographic backgrounds. The College is a part of the Georgia Institute of Technology, a unit of the University System of Georgia and is primarily located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia.

Job Summary


Provide functional oversight to operation of an instructional or research laboratory. Activities include instruction in lab procedures and safety, development of lab procedures, conducting experiments, budgeting and purchasing, equipment and inventory maintenance and maintaining records. May provide work direction to student assistants. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and/or research faculty members, staff and students, vendor/suppliers. This position typically will advise and counsel: lab users, students, tudent assistants. This position will supervise: NA

Responsibilities


Job Duty 1 -
Provide instruction to lab users on proper use of lab equipment, lab safety, protocols and procedures related to conducting experiments

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare and administer laboratory budget; purchase supplies and equipment and maintain related records

Job Duty 3 -
Maintain laboratory facility in safe, clean and organized manner

Job Duty 4 -
Coordinate scheduling of lab usage

Job Duty 5 -
Develop and implement laboratory policy and procedures; incorporate best practices as appropriate

Job Duty 6 -
Calibrate lab instrumentation and maintain lab equipment

Job Duty 7 -
Direct scheduling and work of student assistants, as required

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities


Work year-round to support all three courses (CS 3630, CS 4XXa and CS 4XXb).

Interact with students in once-a-week laboratories.

Provide student training support.

Maintain robot equipment, software upgrades, and help design, update, and maintain the curricula for each of the courses mentioned.

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications
Overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours (due to client shift schedules, project requirements).

Required Experience
Four to five years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications


Additional Preferred Qualifications
Use of required skills practiced in a university environment is preferred

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's Degree

Preferred Qualifications


Previous experience in teaching in a college or university setting; hands-on experience with
robot hardware; proficiency in the Robot Operating System; excellent software engineering
skills; experience in financial and other administrative activities.

Proposed Salary


Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work location: Hybrid (on site and remote)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of instructional or research laboratory operation to include equipment calibration and maintenance, laboratory processes and procedures and lab safety rules and practices. Skills in communication, customer service, work guidance and instruction are required as is the use of specialty and general computer applications.
