What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Adjustment Counselor position at Gerard A. Guilmette Middle School?
The Guilmette Education Complex is looking for one school adjustment counselor.
-Grades 5-8
The primary role of the school adjustment counselor is to identify and assist students, families, community stakeholders to overcome barriers that interfere with learning through the use of assessment, counseling, consultation, coordination of school and community resources, and program development.
1. Collects and records information to share with appropriate personnel as a component of case study. Initiates parent conferences or contact. Interviews students and others, reviews student records, obtains medical, social, or educational information about a referred student from community agencies, and contributes as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and the individualized education program (IEP) teams.
2. Consult on and provide individual and group services to children and/or parents that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct. Conducts home visits as necessary.
3. Work with a panel of support staff to combat chronic attendance.
4. Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting general education staff with suggestions and implementation of tiered interventions, in addition to the school's PBIS model.
5. Provide direct services through a variety of methods (classroom presentations, co-teaching, small group social skills, etc.)
6. Finds and coordinates with outside wrap-around services for students and families.
7. Maintain appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information. Re-evaluate, as appropriate, to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy.
8. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development and keeps current with literature, new research findings, and improved techniques.
9. Writes educational plans and progress reports for students with disabilities and/or with students who require counseling on their IEP.
10. Provide crisis intervention when necessary and serve on crisis team for building.
11. Provides educational support to students applying for high school.
12. Performs any additional duties as directed by the Principal and/or student services office.
