BASIC FUNCTION (Primary Purpose):
The Security Guard EMT ensures the safety of all people and property at the location by monitoring traffic into and out of the location, and by performing other related responsibilities that contribute to the location’s safety. In the event of emergencies, this role responds to and provides appropriate treatment and transportation assistance to ensure the safety of sick or injured people at the location.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Administer first-aid treatment to sick or injured persons and transport to medical facility if necessary.
- Removes or assists in removal of injured persons from scene of accident.
- Communicates with professional medical personnel regarding treatment and handling of sick or injured people.
- Completes and maintains all necessary records, forms, logs and paperwork required for services provided.
- Guards entrance gate to control traffic in and out of plant.
- Directs visitors, contractors, and truck drivers to appropriate location of plant.
- Inspects outgoing traffic to prevent unauthorized removal of company property.
- Answers phone and transfer calls to appropriate department as needed.
- Performs routine inspections of fire extinguishers and maintains inventory.
- Assists in training of co-workers as needed.
- Logs in visitors, vendors and contractors upon entry into the plant.
- Performs general cleanup of work area.
- Keeps protective service equipment and vehicles maintained.
- Updates safety management boards and communicates high alert weather conditions to all plant personnel.
- Conducts onsite drug or alcohol tests as directed by plant management.
- Trains for and assists in Technical Rescue.
Scope (brief description):
To control the access of all personnel, including employees, visitors, contractors and truck drivers, to the mill and provide other duties related to the protection of people and property of Gerdau. To provide appropriate emergency care and transportation assistance to all sick or injured people at the location.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
- Confined Space Rescue training and experience a plus.
- Knowledge of portable and fixed Fire Protection Systems and operations a plus.
- OSHA and NFPA safety related training a plus.
- Good communication skills.
- Able to multi-task.
- Able to set priorities.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Must have a Valid Texas Driver Licenses.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work a rotating shift
- Ability to work under stressful situations
- Must pass a physical agility exam including but not limited to:
- Able to climb stairs and ladders while carrying 40 lbs. of equipment
- Able to lift/carry objects of varying sizes and weights up to 75 lbs.
- Able to work in tight and confined spaces
- Able to work in high areas
- Able to wear and function in a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Ability to work in noisy, hot, and dusty areas
- Ability to operate emergency vehicles
