Our clients Company is a highly successful Design Build/General Contractor that has been a Metroplex and National leader in Industrial and Commercial construction since 1977. Their expertise includes Office, Commercial and Industrial projects and with an emphasis on the transportation industry including trucking, automotive and aviation facilities in DFW, throughout Texas and across the country. By specializing in these niche areas of design, bid and construction, they are better able to understand their clients’ needs and operational goals.  

Our client is currently seeking an experienced Estimator. Commercial construction experience is required and a positive, innovative, teamwork attitude is a must. Only qualified candidates in the commercial construction industry will be considered.

Purpose

To accurately identify scope of work and quantities required to prepare a project estimate; review and analyze subcontractor proposals.     

Scope of Authority/Decision-Making

Complete authority to:

  • Purchase and deliver plans
  • Subcontractor solicitations

Authority after approval to:

  • Major purchases

Reports To:

Vice President – Pre-Construction

Key Result Areas and Accountabilities

  1. Pre-estimating
    1. Verify bid documents received from owner are accurate and complete
    2. Distribute bid documents to subcontractors
    3. Respond to subcontractor questions
    4. Select and solicit subcontractors
    5. Maintain drawing logs throughout the estimating process
  2. Estimating
    1. Perform or delegate quantity takeoffs as required
    2. Setup and build the project estimate and detailed scopes of work for each trade
    3. Input and price quantity takeoffs as required
    4. Keep abreast of current construction practices, unit costs, and trends
    5. Attend pre bid meetings, city meetings, and client meetings as required
    6. Perform preliminary site investigations as required
    7. Thoroughly review all plans and specifications on bid projects early in the bid process
    8. Secure Bid Bonds as needed
    9. Manage bid day activities including delivery of proposal, screening and selection of vendor quotes
    10. Offer value engineering proposals
    11. Prepare bid qualifications as needed
    12. Solicit bids and value engineering proposals from subcontractors and suppliers
  1. Management
    1. Review bid calendar
    2. Prepare budget estimates
    3. Participate in professional trade organizations and activities
  2. Preconstruction Services
    1. Review D/B plans and specs as they are being prepared assuring that they accurately describe the scope of work priced
    2. Coordinate activities of outside consultants
    3. Update preliminary estimates
    4. Prepare subcontractor bid packages
  3. Subcontractor /Vendor Relations
    1. Review and assign preferred vendor status to selected contractors
    2. Review the subcontractor evaluations at the end of each project and make appropriate changes or notes in the sub list
    3. Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors & suppliers
  4. Interdepartmental Coordination
    1. Prepare owner contracts for client signature once the estimate is approved
    2. Prepare turnover documents for transition from estimating to operations
    3. Schedule and conduct turnover meeting with Project Management
    4. Jointly buy out the project with the project manager selecting subcontractors and suppliers on the basis of safety evaluation, experience, fiscal strength, quality and ability to meet the schedule
    5. Assist the project manager in preparing subcontracts and purchase orders
    6. Assist in sales efforts and participate in client meetings
    7. Perform site visits during construction in order to stay current with actual site condition, construction practices, and subcontractor performance
    8. Review post construction cost with operations and accounting teams.  Compare actual scope of work and cost to original estimated cost.  Update historical estimated data based on result of meeting.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

  • Three to Five years in construction industry
  • Computer skills
