We are looking for an experienced Produce manager to help us scale up our fresh and local produce business.
This individual should be high energy, have expert level knowledge of fruits, vegetables, and herbs with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Produce Manager responsibilities will include leading and managing the produce team, ordering product and supplies for produce operations. In addition to overseeing produce operations they will implement initiatives that promote sales, help support customer requests to maximize their satisfaction, and profitability.
Activities include but are not limited to:
Produce Sourcing
Work with existing vendors and identify new farms and distributors for seasonal product availability.
Inventory Management
Identify how much product is needed each week and manage product backstock.
Quality Control
Identify product issues at pickup and receiving and prior to shipping. Ensure customer orders are packed accurately.
Receiving
Help with unloading and staging of products.
P&L Management
Identify input costs for products, supplies, and labor to ensure profitability goals are met. Identify opportunities for margin expansion and cost savings.
Sales/Marketing/Promotions
Identify, plan and manage promotions, events and additional sales channels.
Team Management
Schedule team schedule, training, and work assignments to utilize the teams talents while monitoring profitability.
Develops and maintains communications with other departments in order to devise marketing plans, which will help meet the financial objectives.
Identifies areas in the Produce Department where improvement in customer service is required, then implements changes and procedures to address these needs.
Maintains accurate records on all important matters, including associate performance and discipline, sales plans, etc.
Also performs duties of staff and other duties as needed.
Skills Required:
Previous grocery Produce managerial experience of 3 years.
Good leadership skills to direct the work of others.
Strong oral and written communication skills for dealing with customers, associates and vendors, above average analytical skills to understand and interpret various reports.
Proficient with spreadsheets and basic office applications
OPTIONAL:
Marketing, Sales, Culinary, logistics, or engineering experience a bonus
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Warm warehouse, cold storage, moderate office temperature exposes limited physical discomfort. Some local travel required, collaborative environment, strong focus on teamwork and getting the job done.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lifting and carrying over 50lbs
Operating equipment ( pallet jack)
Bending, reaching and grasping
Standing for extended periods and walking
Some tolerance for stress
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour
