Job Summary:
As a Removal Defense Associate/Senior Associate Attorney at GFI, you will play a vital role in our firm's efforts to protect clients facing deportation. This position involves managing case files, preparing legal documents, and representing clients in court. You will provide critical support in upholding our commitment to justice and client service, with duties that include virtual and in-person court appearances at the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) and potential travel for hearings as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update cases and correspondences.
- Coordinate case and legal strategies with team members.
- Prepare and manage various case filings, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
- Appear in court with clients via WebEx and/or in-person at EOIR.
- Review, edit, and prepare briefs, cover letters, and case filings to EOIR.
- Research unique legal issues by identifying applicable statutes and judicial and agency decisions.
- Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect immigration law.
- Develop solutions to complex legal questions.
- Be available to travel as needed for hearings in court.
- Perform additional job duties as assigned to support our mission.
Requirements and Skills:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree or Master of Laws (LLM) from an accredited law school.
- Active Bar license in good standing in any U.S. state.
- 2-5 years of attorney experience in general immigration law, with specific expertise in:
- Asylum and removal defense.
- Crimmigration.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility and adaptability with work schedules.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in reading and writing in both English and Spanish.
- Advanced computer skills and the ability to learn new software applications quickly.
- Must have reliable transportation to Miami or Krome EOIR and the ability to travel for court hearings as necessary.
