Overview
Manages and directs the clinical and administrative activities of the dental program, ensures compliance with all service standards, rules, and regulations, and supports dental program development internally and through coordination with external stakeholders. Measures and monitors outcomes and financial measures to better identify areas for improvement and support program growth and development. Performs patient care activities such as conducting examinations, providing diagnoses, performing treatment procedures, and prescribing appropriate medication.
Responsibilities
- Manages and directs the clinical and administrative activities of the dental program to provide effective delivery of patient care and to ensure compliance with organizational quality standards and all relevant rules and regulations.
- Serves as designated advisor to the facility’s governing body regarding all dental programs.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Serves as primary liaison with medical staff and other health care providers to better coordinate treatment and provide consultation as needed.
- Directs, plans, and implements programs focused on integrating dental goals and programs with stronger organizational objectives.
- Measures and monitors clinical and financial outcomes to better support departmental and organization-wide Quality Management programs. Also prepares regular operational reports and provides recommendations for program or strategic changes.
- Conducts comprehensive dental examinations and diagnoses patients through the use of medical history records, radiographs, and other tests as appropriate.
- Diagnoses and treats oral diseases, injuries, and structure complications within the scope of clinical privileges and expertise.
- Prescribes patients with medications for infection control, pain relief, and the prevention of viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.
- Develops, reviews, and revises all departmental policies and procedures to ensure optimal operations and effective patient care.
- Supervises staff and provides feedback and continuing education programs to support staff professional development.
- Manages department strategies and budgets and identifies opportunities for development to foster departmental growth and improve patient care services.
- Performs other job-related activities as requested.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Dentistry, DDS or DMD required.
- 3 years of experience in a dental practice preferred.
- Current and valid State of Arizona license to practice dentistry. State of Arizona license required within one year in position.
- Board certified required OR Board eligible with 3 years of completing training.
- Current and continuing BLS training and certification.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
