The opportunity
The Area Manager supervises the operational flow of the Distribution Center across multiple shifts in specific departments. Maintains focus on a safe work environment. Maximizes distribution center operations to increase order flow, inventory accuracy, and processing standards established by Gildan. Utilizes department supervisors, warehouse employees, equipment operator, and team leaders to reach optimization goals. Is accountable for staff performance and constantly seeks ways to improve the process by providing feedback to all levels.

The role
- Manages activities of the warehouse floor under the direction of the Operations Manager. Follows established procedures and approved processes. Works to ensure optimum efficiency within the distribution operation.
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates departmental and shift activities to fulfill shipment orders, meet inventory requirements and deliver products on time.
- Revises work schedules and priorities as a result of operations or inventory problems.
- Coordinates distribution activities with procurement, maintenance, logistics, and quality control to obtain optimum efficiencies with personnel and equipment, while maintaining cost factor goals.
- Manages the order flow and prioritization of work in the areas of responsibility.
- Reports inventory related problems to the Inventory Control department and confirms reconciliation.
- Makes decisions and discusses efficiency practices with management personnel to promote production and quality control standards.
- Supervises and manages team of supervisors across shifts and across departments.
- Conducts regular reviews with direct reports,
- Drives Gildan established Best Practices within warehouse operations.
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance to organization's policies, processes, procedures, and regulations.
- Promotes initiatives of continuous improvement across multiple areas on daily basis including: safety quality, productivity, cost containment, etc.
- Supports Operations Manager in improving system of production control, standard operating procedures, quality control, and performance management.
- Resolves processing issues as they relate to order fill and customer compliance.
- Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas; ensures effective employee relations and provides coaching and development as needed.
- Offers suggestions and implements processes that will ensure the efficient flow of product through the areas of responsibility.
- Drives changes to support adherence to LEAN 5S principals throughout the distribution center.
- Suggests and supports operational processes to ensure customer service.
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Knowledge & Professional Experience
- 5 years of related experience and high school diploma required.
- Experience in distribution management required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Etc.)
- Knowledge and proven experience in all areas of Distribution Operations
- Experience and understanding of LEAN 5S principals and application
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage people to obtain desired results
- Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills required
- Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly
- Experience in Inventory Control
- Experience with a full-functional computerized Warehouse Management System such as RedPrairie preferred
- Experience within a manufacturing company supplying product to Retail Customers preferred
- Ability to multi-task and realign priorities quickly
- Ability to work in a team-based environment
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with all levels within organization
- Hearing is required in order to hear instructions, receive information from various sources and understand safety warnings
- Vision is required in order to read instructions, interpret data, and formulate metrics
