What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabricator position at Gillespie Precast, LLC?
This position is responsible for fabricating various metal products to meet our customers’ needs, along with performing repair work to support our internal operations. An ideal candidate is one that can understand shop drawings but is also a good problem solver when little details are provided.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fabrication of stock and custom steel products, with some aluminum and stainless steel. These products mainly consist of:
- Angles/channels with welded studs for casting into concrete
- Rectangular/square frames
- Clip angles & bolt plates
- Trash racks for storm drain structures
- Custom formwork for concrete
- The fabrication of these products will include tasks such as:
- MIG welding
- Stick welding
- Chop saw & band saw cutting
- Plasma cutting
- Grinding & drilling
- Punching, shearing & braking
- Painting
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Equipment & operational repairs, including but not limited to:
- Formwork, rebar cutting/bending equipment, concrete mixer, sand & stone hopper gates, yard equipment & trailers, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience with MIG and/or stick welding
- Comfortable with measurements and layout
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Ability to work safely and follow all company safety policies.
- Ability to successfully complete equipment operating training, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Basic mechanical knowledge
- Previous experience in a fabrication shop
- Experience welding aluminum and/or stainless steel
- Comfortable with heights and/or confined spaces
Physical Requirements:
- Required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, climb, or sit for extended periods of time; reach and handle objects, tools, or controls; regularly lift, carry push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Perform manual labor and utilize various hand tools.
Working Environment:
- Most work will be performed inside the fabrication shop or inside one of the concrete facilities. At times, repair work will need to be performed outside.
- Noise levels will be consistent with standard fabrication shop equipment. Hearing protection will be provided and expected to be used as needed.
- Common fabrication shop safety hazards include working with or near moving equipment, sharp objects and hot surfaces.

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
