POSITION SUMMARY
The Engagement Specialist/Recruiter is responsible for selling Girl Scout memberships. The person will travel throughout assigned regional areas to work with schools and community partners to connect with parents, caregivers and potential volunteers at open houses, PTA meetings, and other events and functions. This position requires the person to obtain a deep knowledge of various communities and to develop and enhance partnerships to engage new girls and adults. The Engagement Specialist will work as a team with the Membership Team and community volunteers to recruit new girl members and adult volunteers to meet area membership goals. Develop leads (potential members) by gathering contact information from interested event participants.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Increase adult membership by developing new and enhancing existing community partnerships as well as working with volunteers to develop and implement recruitment plans. Schedule, market, and hold events to explain the benefits of Girl Scout membership in order to register new girl and adult members.
- Establish a recruitment plan for each assigned geographic area to create and implement a specific plan of action to achieve monthly membership goals. Maintain acceptable levels of performance within assigned metrics.
- Work in partnership with Troop Support Specialists to identify gaps in service within geographic areas and develop and execute a plan to ensure that our membership is reflective of the community in which we live.
- Contact, establish, and maintain positive relationships, as well as present to community organizations including schools, churches, community centers, etc. for the purpose of recruiting adult volunteers
- Participate in activities within the community to further the understanding and advancement of Girl Scouting.
- Function as a positive and cooperative member of the Membership Team and Heart of Michigan staff, sharing support, resources and expertise.
- Provide active support for council events, programs and product programs.
- Learn and utilize creative recruitment methods for engaging potential Girl Scout volunteers.
- Possess or be willing to gain knowledge of the demographics, community resources, community networks and potential membership in the area
- Create and maintain a positive environment that fosters respectful, meaningful and effective interaction among all people, regardless of gender, race, culture, language, disability, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
- Develops understanding and competency in girl development around one grade level (K-1; 2-3; 4-5; 6-8; 9-10; 11-12) curriculum and age-appropriate activities for that specific level.
- Serves as council expert, assist in hosting/developing staff and leader training, partners with grade level talented volunteers to promote and spread best practices, and give specific assistance directly to leaders, program, adult education, and others as required.
- Working as a team, take responsibility for Starter Troop, Outreach, and Juliette activities in order to grow membership within the Service Unit.
- Potentially partner with Outreach Specialists to promote and deliver the Girl Scout program in under-served communities.
- Frequent travel within the council to various meeting locations with staff, volunteers, and community.
- Will work at least 3-4 evenings each week and occasional weekend hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or experience commensurate with degree, preferably three years of related experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Accepts the principles and beliefs of Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) and Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan (GSHOM).
- Become a registered member of GSUSA.
- Possess sales expertise and internal motivation to succeed.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, functioning vehicle, and the ability to travel within the jurisdiction.
- Able to work a flexible schedule with at least 3-4 evenings a week and occasional weekends.
- Flexible and team oriented. Able to overcome rejection and a drive to succeed and achieve goals.
- Ability to work with adults and respect their individual differences.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong public speaking skills.
- Ability to analyze, plan, and evaluate.
- Highly organized as it relates to time management and prioritization.
- Strong human relations, problem solving, and conflict management skills required both in-person and on the telephone when speaking with volunteers, staff, and organizations throughout the community.
- Ability to organize, direct, and motivate individuals and groups.
- Ability to learn and use Microsoft Office and Salesforce software.
- Willingness to use multiple communication methods including telephone, texting, social media, and email.
- Able to lift and/or manipulate up to 25 pounds.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Full-time salary position working at least 40 hours per week.
- More hours may be required during peak seasons.
- Position requires multiple evenings and occasional weekend work.
