What are the responsibilities and job description for the STEM Camp On-Call Summer Sub position at Girls Rock Math?

Girls Rock Math is looking for on-call summer subs who can teach or take on a support staff role at our various locations in the Seattle area! Our camps run from June 27th-August 19th and we can work with subs to develop a custom summer schedule. We only ask that you are able to work at least 4 weeks during this time frame.

Pay Structure:

1) You will be paid a daily rate of for being on-call whether you're needed or not! If you are not called to sub, you will be paid a rate of $50-$75 per day depending on experience.

2) You will be paid an hourly rate for any days you do work! When you are assigned to sub, you will be paid a rate of $20-$24 per hour.
Pay rates are set based on previous professional experience

On-call subs must:

  • Have prior experience as an instructor or site director in a school, summer camp, or after school program
  • Be available via text/phone between 6 am - 6 pm when on-call
  • Be available to arrive at their assigned camp within an hour during camp hours
  • Possess strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Be comfortable and enthusiastic around math instruction (1st-3rd or 3rd-6th)
  • Be patient and reliable
  • Have a passion for empowering young girls in STEM

If Subbing for a Teacher:

Instructor duties include preparing each day using the Girls Rock Math curriculum guide, leading and implementing the curriculum, and managing equipment and supplies for your camp group. Experience working with elementary-aged kids is preferred, as well as strong skills in group/classroom management.

  • Implement the Girls Rock Math curriculum (Day by day schedule and plans are already prepared as well as material kits- just be ready to teach it each day!)
  • Lead recreational and educational activities (crafts and outdoor games)
  • Escort and oversee children
  • Supervise our Teen Leadership Staff (1-2 teens will be assigned to help with your small group of campers)
  • Educate campers through games and explorations
  • Set up and maintain equipment (outdoor tents and stations)
  • Resolve occasional social emotional conflicts and address behavioral issues
  • Make sure all safety rules are followed
  • Ensure the camp site is clean and help campers maintain our camp materials
  • Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed
  • Keep accurate incident logs, attendance, daily health screenings and communication with families

If Subbing for a Site Director:

Site Directors manage the ins and outs of the camp day, which includes working with campers on a 1:1 basis and with the entire group, so group/classroom management skills are a must. Additionally, the Site Director does the majority of communication with parents, staff and camp administrators, so we are seeking excellent communicators and strong managers.

  • Ensure that the site has all necessary supplies on hand, including project materials and medical supplies
  • Regularly check camp email and phone throughout the day
  • Facilitate daily meetings with teachers and intern-counselors to ensure smooth delivery of curriculum and programming
  • Create a weekly Break Schedule for staff at your assigned location
  • Float in and out of camp classes, supporting the teacher with instruction, small groups, or individual campers as needed
  • Supervise camper recess and lunch
  • Complete an evaluation of the counselors and CITs who worked at the camp each week
  • Establish a relationship with all campers, particularly those with higher needs.
  • Assist in setting up and cleaning classrooms at your camp location

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Supplemental Pay:

  • Bonus pay

COVID-19 considerations:
We will be following all CDC guidelines and local health department recommendations for K-12 institutions. While these guidelines are fluid and dynamic, we are monitoring them closely and can pivot our camps to be fully outdoors, if necessary.

Experience:

  • Classroom teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Summer camp instruction: 1 year (Preferred)
  • After school program: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
  • Teaching Certification (Preferred)
