Full Time Activity Assistant for Life Enrichment
We are looking for a positive, compassionate activities assistant to schedule and coordinate events for our Life Enrichment department. The activities assistant will create and handle the logistics for daily, weekly, and monthly events in an effort to engage residents. They will speak to participants to get feedback, manage resources, and deliver fun and safe programming. Candidates should be detail-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
These activities focus on goals like health and wellness, socializing, entertainment, relaxation, and possibly improving daily living skills.
To succeed as an activity assistant, candidates should strive to stage entertaining, engaging activities that will appeal to the age and physical or emotional condition of the client. This position requires candidates to be observant, driven, creative, and caring. Experience with nursing/dementia preferred.
Activities Assistant Responsibilities:
Utilizing a computer to keep a record of resident attendance, progress, and overall well-being.
Lead individual and group exercise programs.
Make routine visits to residents and provides 1:1 interactions in compliance with service plan.
Transport resident requiring assistance to programs.
Encourage hobbies and crafts and request materials.
Planning and facilitating daily, weekly, and monthly events to encourage socialization, relaxation, and recreation.
Implementing activities that accommodate those with special needs, both physically or cognitively.
Handling logistics in conjunction with management to make the event possible, such as making phone calls, developing advertising, managing inventory, training and motivating volunteers or fellow employees, and coordinating transportation.
Observing participants at events gauge their enjoyment and obtain their feedback to improve events.
Keeping records regarding event planning resources, participant interest, and other notable information, such as injuries or behavioral incidents.
Ensuring that events are well-provisioned, the event space is and prepared, and that the event takes place on time.
Adhering to and enforcing all safety procedures.
Activities Assistant Requirements:
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as an Activity Assistant preferred.
More education or experience with nursing, recreational activities, event planning, or related is preferred.
First-aid and CPR training preferred, but not required.
Physical fitness, ability to walk, dance, stand, lift, or meet other physical demands.
Patience and compassion when dealing with others, especially those who are sick, injured, elderly, or from different backgrounds.
Flexibility to work when needed, especially evenings, weekends, or early mornings.
