What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Winemaker position at Glenora Wine Cellars?
Glenora Wine Cellars, an award-winning winery located in the heart of Finger Lakes Wine Country, is seeking an experienced, professional and highly motivated Assistant Winemaker to assist the Head Winemaker with production of their 30,000 case winery.
This position performs all duties pertinent to the production of premium quality wines with a focus on cool climate Vinifera, Hybrid, and Native American grape varieties. Applicant should have a full understanding of winemaking and hands-on experience in harvest/fermentation, filtering, production/blending, and bottling. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: harvest/crush operations, post-harvest wine management, as well as winery representation and customer relations.
A successful candidate, in conjunction with the Head Winemaker, will participate in events and activities geared toward sales and marketing of our wines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinate wine production and wine finishing in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures established by the Winemaker
- Participate in routine inventory tasting and blending sessions recommending appropriate action in consultation with our Winemaker
- Ensure superior cellar sanitation and safety standards
- Act as backup when necessary to all members of the winery team
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Associates in Enology/Fermentation Science/Viticulture or related science is preferred
- Minimum 2 years practical, commercial winemaking experience
- Vineyard knowledge and experience desirable
- Laboratory familiarity
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with all aspects of harvest, fermentation, sparkling wine production, cellar work, and winemaking analysis
- Self-starter with attention to detail & good project management skills
- Available to work a varied schedule during harvest season as needed
- Excellent communication skills
- Accuracy with numbers and strong recordkeeping skills along with a working knowledge of data collection and data analysis
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to navigate proprietary programs & databases
- Ability to lift or pull 50 pounds
