DIRECTOR, MEDICAL SCIENCE LIAISON (Remote)

Job Summary:

Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc. (GBT) is seeking a Director, Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) to serve as a key member of the Medical Affairs team and will be accountable for collaboration between the Company and national and regional thought leaders. Responsible for cultivating, implementing and managing scientific expertise and knowledge with brand strategies to ensure successful communication, education and implementation of the Company's marketed and emerging product portfolio. Upon build-out, will be responsible for managing and leading a team of experienced MSLs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, mentor and provide continuous strategic and tactical vision, guidance and training to a group of highly credentialed and qualified medical professionals
  • Oversee field-based scientific exchange and communication of commercial and pipeline products
  • Facilitate scientific development of marketed and pipeline compounds at research centers and secure our presence in the therapeutic area of blood-based disorders
  • Key leader in a cross-functional setting in close alignment with the Company's Medical Affairs and Commercial groups
  • Lead the process for setting the vision and developing the MSL's business plan covering policies and operating procedures and expectations for the group
  • Provide clinical resources, tools and programs in support of sales and marketing efforts, competitive intelligence and the overall scientific information and interactions
  • Maintain clinical and technical expertise in through review of the scientific literature and attendance at key scientific meetings
  • Solid understanding of drug development and life-cycle development of a product and will be an excellent communicator, skilled at diplomacy and capable of effectively combining science and relationship building
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with thought leaders and to establish trust through the consistent demonstration of scientific expertise and satisfactory follow-through to requests from thought-leaders; the ability to work effectively with key decision makers, both within and outside the company
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner even in the face of incomplete information or tight timelines and pressure
  • Efficiently manage time and priorities, coordinate field goals and objectives, activities and establish calendar and direction; lead and participate in training programs and establish Plan of actions and timelines on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to compile and disseminate information to regional associates and others in a cohesive fashion to assure a clear understanding of the vision, expectations and direction are required
  • Ability to understand and translate external customer and/or internal client needs into effective decisions and to drive results and strive for continuous improvement with high performance in the face of adversity a must

Qualifications:

  • Accredited doctorate degree in a life-science or basic-science discipline (i.e., Ph.D., Pharm.D., D.N.P, M.D./D.O.)
  • A minimum of 5-7 years previous MSL experience
  • Advantage given for industry experience in a related medical or scientific discipline
  • Advantage given for previous sales and / or sales management experience
  • Ability to understand and stay current with key diseases states, scientific and medical advances, business trends and health care marketplace drivers that impact the commercialization of Global Blood Therapeutics
  • Ability to understand and articulate the clinical and commercial attributes of Global Health Therapeutics and how these treatments improve patient outcomes and meets customer needs
  • Customer focused with an understanding of government and industry guidelines and U.S. healthcare landscape (managed markets, emergence of evidence-based medicine, current regulatory environment, etc.) for appropriate scientific and medical exchange and communication with customers
  • Highly professional; excellent relationship-building skills
  • Ability to create and maintain an effective and collaborative KOL and investigator network
  • Understand changes in federal and state legislation and how it will impact regulation, delivery and reimbursement of health care products and services
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions despite ambiguity and incomplete information, and to analyze and synthesize both quantitative and qualitative information to identify and focus on key facts, opportunities and possibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams with a commitment to cross-functional risk sharing, collaboration and learning that facilitates partnership, collective accountability and prompt, informed decision-making, and to promote cooperation and collaboration between functional area team members to effectively and efficiently achieve desired results and outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on commitments, to lead by example, and to enable others to effectively contribute
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively network with colleagues to build strong business relationships at multiple levels, both internally and externally
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with power and clarity and to negotiate with internal and external constituencies to achieve desired results and outcomes
  • Relationships with KOLs and investigators in the field of hematology, and the ability to cultivate additional relationships as clinical use of Global Blood Therapeutics expands into additional indications
  • Sound communication skills, a willingness to travel extensively, and an open and collegial style of interacting with co-workers and customers
