Job Description:
Performs professional social work in a psychiatric outpatient setting by overseeing and participating in assisting the developmental disabilities, mentally ill or emotionally disturbed to readjust and achieve a social, economic, emotional, and physical balance and personal independence compatible with generally accepted norms. Professional social work services include but are not limited to assessments, treatment planning, direct service provision, person-centered services and management of client risk and safety. Reports to the Site Manager and is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care services that support the integrity of the Department of Health and Human Services β Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Provides consultative services to other state and private agencies as well as referring clients/patients to appropriate social service agencies.
1. Interview patients, clients, family members and/or persons deemed necessary to obtain the most complete case history.
2. Refers or assigns cases to appropriate provider for effective service delivery.
3. Maintains a caseload, providing therapeutic treatment to clients and families.
4. Provides consultation to staff to enable them to intervene in crisis situations or directly handles explosive situations.
5. Participates in inter-disciplinary team conferences to formulate or evaluate a treatment plan.
6. Provides consultative services to state and private agencies and may participate in community projects.
7. Knowledge of child, adolescent, and adult psychology.
8. Knowledge of developmental, mental, and emotional disorders, and the social, economic, and psychological implications and behavioral impact.
9. Knowledge of methods and techniques of counseling and social casework.
10. Knowledge of family dynamics and reactions to mental illness.
11. Knowledge of availability, role, and functions of community resources.
12. Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
13. Skill in evaluating existing programs and making recommendations for improvement to best meet individual and community need.
