What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller, CPA position at gpac?
Job Purpose: The purpose of the Controller is to support the business, specifically the finance and accounting group in producing and developing relevant, accurate, legitimate information that is in accordance with US GAAP (where applicable). The Controller is responsible for: financial reporting, tax compliance, budget support, liaison with our auditors/tax accountants and other relevant stakeholders, inventory management, ERP management and payroll.
Essential Responsbilities:
- Adhering to the Company's document retention and invoice management policies.
- Accounts payable: Review accounts payable processes for proper adhere to policies (i.e. three-way matching, accurate coding, etc), ensure payments are released in priority and on-time, manage full payable cycle, manage vendor relations.
- Accounts receivable: ensure timely collection from customers, ensure customer invoicing is completed on a timely/accurate basis, etc.
- Payroll: review data and relevant forms to ensure employees are input in the Company's payroll systems., ensure checklists are adhered to when processing payroll data, review payroll process to ensure processes are adhered to when processing payroll (approvals of timecards, processing/approval of PTO/Sick time, etc.)
- Assist with inventory: prepare inventory reconciliations, work with Senior Cost Accountant to review counts/procedures to ensure accurate counts exist, complete PPV and monthly overhead allocations, standard cost analysis, etc.
- Period end close: review period end documents compiled by Accounts Payable staff, Staff Accountant and Senior Accountant and ensure timely/accurate close of financials.
- Assist in the preparation of relevant state and federal payroll, financial, lender and investor related requests on a timely and accurate basis (i.e. garnishments, ETP reports, CalRecycle compliance, etc.)
- Prepare any other reports or reconciliations/schedules as needed.
- Demonstrate appropriate understanding / working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and internal controls and apply them.
- Establish and monitor the implementation and adherence and improvement of accounting control procedures and documentation.
- Assist in the period end close by following the period end close checklist associated with your assigned area.
- Assist in the development of practices to ensure efficient and accurate processing of data.
- Assist in the completion of the annual audit, tax returns and other required deliverables to various parties.
- Substantiates financial transactions by appropriately reviewing relevant documents.
- Support business in completing their annual year-end audit.
- Identify critical areas of improvement by providing a well-documented and explained case.
- Ad hoc projects as needed.
- Responsible for compliance with food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree is highly preferred, preferably in one of the business-related disciplines (accounting is preferred).
- CPA and manufacturing experience is required.
- Strong history of performance in education.
- Must be able to read and write in English, as well as basic proficiency in math.
