What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development Manager position at GQR?
Seeking a Development Manager who will lead our software development and support team. maintenance of multiple services and SaaS applications. You will have direct management responsibilities for a mid-sized team of Prod II/III support engineers. You will be a champion of a DevOps culture and have full accountability for team output. You will partner with other leaders in the organization to coordinate and prioritize a backlog of feature delivery & production support, ensuring SAFe processes are followed by the team.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business and technical staff in on-site and virtual environments.
- Handle day-to-day management responsibilities for direct reports.
- Participate in Agile Release Train Synchronization meetings.
- Lead preparations for Program Increment planning events.
- Assist/lead team’s iteration planning, retrospectives, and demos.
- Coordinate and lead release deployments across a cross-functional team.
- Develop a culture of continuous improvement amongst team members and peers.
- Guidance over the team’s agile journey and maturation.
Qualified candidates typically will bring eight or more years of overall experience in a software development shop with two or more years in a technical leadership role responsible for management and mentoring of software engineers. Your team will be responsible for platform stability and manages a queue of Tier II & III high-priority production tickets, incidents, and ad hoc requests. The Development Manager will need to have a mix of the following skills:
- People Management: having responsibilities for direct reports for a medium size team.
- Hands-on development. This is not a dev role, but the leader is expected to have been a developer in the past so they understand what the team is facing, understands the challenges they are facing, and can coach them on potential resolutions.
- Project Management: The team supports production incidents for a 24x7x365 platform and typically has a backlog in their queue in addition to managing ad hoc requests. Management of the queue will be critical - determining priorities, status, challenges, and potential timeline.
