POSITION SUMMARY:
The Snowmaker is responsible for staging guns and hose as directed by Slope Maintenance Supervisor and subsequently checking and adjusting all running equipment continuously throughout shift. The snowmaking position works four days per week, 12 hours per night, and requires strenuous physical work outdoors during overnight shifts in cold and sometime extreme weather conditions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Check and adjust fan guns to maintain snow quality regularly.
Operate snowmobiles and UTV/ATV that may be towing snowmaking equipment or pulling hoses.
Hook up and clean out snowmaking hoses and equipment regularly.
Ensure safety requirements are met and adhered to at all times.
Stage hose and guns utilizing snowmobile, UTV as necessary. Hiking through tree islands in wet, heavy, deep snow will be required.
Move and fluff hose as directed by supervisor and to ensure it is not buried or frozen during shift.
Move, redirect, and maintain snow guns as directed by supervisor and to ensure it is not frozen, buried or pointed in the wrong direction due to wind. Requires removing ice and snow using hand tools.
Conduct system start up and shut down following protocols and supervisor direction exactly every time.
Keep the Supervisor informed of all situations and status throughout the shift.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain an exceptional level of guest service in all interaction with guests, fellow employees, and management.
Keep mountain shop clean, organized and sanitized.
Assist with other mountain operations departments as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to remain alert and respond quickly and appropriately as trained.
Ability to use sound judgement.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience operating snowmobile, ATV, UTV in work setting preferred.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be physically capable to perform strenuous exercise at 8,000-10,000 feet with adverse weather conditions including working with high pressure water and air.
Must be able to work over-night shift.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Dexterity and strength for utilizing hand tools including mallets, large wrenches, operating snowmobiles, connecting hoses to fittings in cold, wet conditions.
Excellent verbal, auditory and visual abilities necessary for communication with others in the dark, while using helmets, radios, and working around loud equipment.
Provide own clothing and accessories necessary for work outdoors in high alpine winter environment.
Walking, Kneeling, Squatting, Climbing (ladders), Reaching, Grabbing, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Sitting, Standing, on uneven, sometimes icy, steep slopes, in variable snow conditions.
