Rate of Pay: This position pays $20.90 per hour.
Schedule: Full-time or part-time; est. 3:00AM start, schedule flexibility and the ability to work weekends and holidays is required. Due to shifts in routing and production levels, no set weekly shift is guaranteed.
Job Description
The Driver 1 represents the Grand Central Bakery brand by delivering artisan bakery bread to our customers and neighborhood cafes safely and efficiently. The Driver 1 has expertise and confidence with 2 or more routes within 6 months from hire and can complete the routes in their entirety within the prescribed time constraints.
The ideal candidate for this position will be self-motivated and independent. They will have high performance standards, strong customer orientation and team mentality, and composure under pressure.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Ability to be flexible with schedule to meet delivery operation needs, confidently taking ownership of 1 or more routes to deliver bread within prescribed time parameters
- Delivers excellent customer service – friendly, helpful, and courteous at all times
- Uses problem solving skills to address customer complaints, accurately and carefully pack products, demonstrate accuracy with invoices and money handling
- Maintains quality control standards
- Keeps delivery vehicles and delivery area clean, organized, and ready for the next shift
- Inspects delivery vehicle prior to and after each shift
- Operates vehicle in a safe and courteous manner while obeying all traffic laws
- Is able to differentiate between and describe products
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to read, write, and speak English required
- Maintains food handler’s card – new hires are expected to have a valid card by their first date of work
- HS diploma/GED preferred
- Must be able to add, subtract and multiply with ease and accuracy
- Professional driving experience preferred
- DSD (Direct Sales Delivery) experience preferred
- Valid Driver’s License with an insurable driving record
- Must pass a company administered driving test
- Is able to successfully complete Smith System training and apply principles at all times
Physical Requirements
The driver procedures require a high level of repetitive motion involving hands, wrists, arms and back. This position may be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs during their normal duties.
Drivers work in a building shared with production facilities. They are constantly exposed to wheat flour dust and other grain dusts (rye, corn, oat).
