Summary
Graphite One (Alaska) Inc. is hiring seasonal core cutters to support exploration activities at its Nome Camp, supporting the Graphite Creek Project in western Alaska. Successful candidates will operate a core saw to split drill core and package for further assay preparation.
Residents of Nome, AK may travel to and from the work site at Graphite One's Nome Camp at Satellite Field. Residents from surrounding villages will be provided room and board at Graphite One's Nome Camp.
All Graphite One (Alaska) Inc camps, including the Nome Camp, are drug and alcohol-free facilities. Graphite One has a zero-tolerance policy for the possession of or job performance under the influence of any drug, including marijuana, or alcohol.
The position reports to the Chief Geologist and may take directions from other program geologists.
The position is anticipated to last from mid-June to late September depending on weather. conditions.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Safety
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times where prescribed.
- Regularly inspect the workplace for safety and housekeeping issues
- Evaluate job risks and know how to exercise Stop-Work-Authority until risks are mitigated
- Complete Job Hazard Assessments for all work tasks where required
- Comply with all Graphite One site safety and company policies and procedures
- Participate in daily toolbox / safety meetings
Job
- Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment and workplace
- Safely operate a manual feed core/masonry water-cooled saw to split rock core samples
- Prepare labels for sample bags
- Place half split core in sample bags
- Replace the other half of the split core boxes in the correct order and orientation
- May operate a skid steer loader to move core pallets pending training and competency demonstration.
- Operate all equipment and perform all work duties in a safe, efficient manner.
- Communicate respectfully with all camp employees, contractors, and consultants
- Other tasks as assigned
Work Schedule
The position will operate 12 hours per day on a 20-day on / 10-days off rotation. Alternate schedules may be available for Nome residents not staying in the camp.
Qualifications
- No previous experience required
- Ability to read and follow detailed instructions
- Willingness to ask questions and get clarification from supervisors
- Willingness to alert supervisors to errors and participate in resolving them
- Willingness to take direction from geology staff
- Ability to complete repetitive tasks while standing
- Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively throughout the day
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, contractors, and consultants
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Current drivers license preferred
