Grassi’s client, a Real Estate company specializing in affordable housing located in Glen Cove, NY is seeking an experienced Controller to join their growing team.
The Controller is responsible for operational accounting over a multi-entity real estate enterprise. Chief responsibilities include daily accounting with commissions reporting, inter-company transactions, bank reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable as well as some development project management accounting. You will also be responsible for maintaining and implementing appropriate accounting procedures, preparing financial statements, monthly close, maintaining the general ledger, and special projects as needed all. The environment is fast paced and requires the skill to multi-task.
Primary Responsibilities
- Full cycle accounting and finance responsibilities.
- Involvement in new acquisition and development projects.
- Financial oversight: Manage accounting operations, including AP/AR, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant regulations.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and monitor annual budgets, providing detailed forecasts and variance analyses specific to real estate projects.
- Cash Flow Management: Analyze cash flow trends and prepare cash flow projections to support real estate acquisitions and development projects.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the finance team, promoting professional development and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including operations and asset management, to support financial decision-making and strategic planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required. Advanced degree or certifications preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience and knowledge with real estate accounting and finance, preferably in residential and/or affordable housing.
- New Development and Construction experience highly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Solid computer skills including MS Office, Excel, Outlook.
