The Insurance Agent’s primary purpose is to assist Great Lakes Credit Union to live out our Vision, “To be the members’ trusted financial partner.” Responsible for ensuring that outstanding service is delivered to both internal and external members, in alignment with our Standards of Greatness.

The Insurance Agent is responsible for both generating and follow up on leads to sell home, life, auto, and other types of insurance. The Insurance Agent assists members in selecting insurance policies that best meets their needs, preferences, and budgets. Their main duties include creating client payment methods, recommending risk management strategies to members, and providing policy proceeds after members’ submitted claims are approved.

 As an Insurance Agent your duties will be: 

• Providing outstanding member service to both internal and external members.
• Demonstrate teamwork in all interactions with coworkers and in the completion of all duties and responsibilities.
• Ensuring confidentiality of member information.
• Performing functions on agency management system proficiently and assists others as needed.
• Processing, maintaining, and preparing new and renewal accounts for marketing, placement, and delivery to VP/Insurance or clients as directed.
• Handling normal account service activity including endorsements, audits, invoicing, etc.
• Policy processing and quality control.
• Gathering the information and risk management recommendations for the writing of new and renewal accounts sixty days prior to renewal and for delivering renewals and/or binders for designated accounts, as needed, within seven days of      receipt.
• Conducting periodic service calls for designated accounts.
• Performing special projects at the request of designated clients after being approved by manager.  Binders and/or policy or endorsement requests are to be completed within three days of date quoted to client.
• Maintaining a concern for timeliness and completeness when interacting with customers, agency, and company personnel to minimize potential for errors & omissions claims.
• Receiving phone calls and office visitors requesting quotes, changes to existing coverage, review/process certificate of insurance requests and completes the changes/requests within 24 hours of receipt.  Determining acceptability and placement, completes applications or endorsements, and collect premium when applicable.
• Reviewing      existing accounts to determine if additional lines of insurance should be solicited and does so by email and/or phone prior to renewal.
• Reviewing all termination and cancellations to determine action to be taken and action needed within 72 hours of receipt.
• Handling premium collection through form letter and request cancellation of policies when necessary.
• Following  up on outstanding claims and helps in their resolution, as necessary.
• Soliciting expiration dates for policies not written by agency.
• Soliciting increases in limits and/or coverage or rounding out accounts through sales to clients at every service contact.
• Seek referrals from current client base to solicit for new business prospects; follows up to generate new business using prospect database and automation system.
• Meeting minimum sales expectations for all products and services.
• Documenting all material conversation with insured and/or carriers regarding exposures and coverage.
• Maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations, and following all of GLCU’s policies, procedures and internal controls.

Requirements

• One year to three years of similar or related experience
• A 2-year college degree, or completion of a specialized study at school, or extensive in-house training
• Significant level of trust and diplomacy is required - Work involves extensive personal contact of personal or sensitive nature.
• Decision making requires analytical ability, judgement, and ingenuity - moderate amount of discretion.
•  Professional insurance designation to sell auto, home, and life insurance.
