POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision and following established procedures, the Transportation Supervisor supports and works closely with the Distribution and Warehouse Manager across all departments. Directs and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in Fleet, Non-Fleet Distribution and Receiving operations, overseeing the scheduling and management of the labor force. Plans for, organizes, and monitors the receiving, storage, and distribution of all items received either from suppliers or production shops.
All job responsibilities are to be performed in strict adherence with the Company’s Mission/Values Statement and in accordance with established standards for external customers as well as internal customers.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee Transportation Operations: Supervise and coordinate transportation activities, including route planning, scheduling, dispatching, and tracking of vehicles.
Optimize Resource Allocation: Ensure efficient utilization of transportation resources, including vehicles, drivers, and fuel, to achieve cost-effective operations while meeting customer demands.
Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain compliance with transportation laws and regulations, including driver qualifications, vehicle inspections, and documentation requirements.
Implement Safety Standards: Promote and enforce safety protocols and best practices to minimize accidents, injuries, and damage during transportation operations.
Monitor Performance Metrics: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of transportation operations, making data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
Manage Fleet Maintenance: Collaborate with maintenance staff to schedule routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections for the transportation fleet, ensuring optimal vehicle performance and minimizing downtime.
Coordinate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with internal teams, including warehouse, procurement, and customer service, to ensure seamless coordination and timely delivery of goods.
Lead and Develop Team: Recruit, train, and supervise transportation personnel, providing guidance, performance feedback, and coaching to enhance their skills and performance.
Resolve Issues and Customer Complaints: Address transportation-related issues promptly and effectively, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to find resolutions and ensure customer satisfaction.
Stay Updated on Industry Trends: Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices in transportation and logistics, identifying opportunities for process improvement and operational excellence.
Develops policies and procedures to achieve Great Northern objectives.
Attends production and fulfillment planning meetings, special projects meetings, and Company functions.
Remains current on changes in policies, procedures, and product information. Attends authorized training programs and seminars.
Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.
Assists and provides leadership for Great Northern’s efforts in World Class Manufacturing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in business management, Industrial Management or related field required.
Minimum five to seven years’ experience in Warehousing, Receiving, Distribution, Transportation, Inventory Control, and/or Materials Management in a Corrugated Industry environment with three years in a leadership role strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of Receiving, Warehouse, Transportation and Material Handling operations, methods and practices
Ability to develop staff and equipment structures to support present and future operations.
Proven analytical and communication skills and the ability to identify customer needs and communicate them to constituents.
Self-directed, takes initiative in seeking efficiencies of processes; follow through on implementation.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven organizational skills.
Ability to handle several projects concurrently and to work in a team environment.
Customer service oriented. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Strong interpersonal and presentation communications skills in both oral and written format
Experience using proven management concepts to facilitate, design and improve business warehousing/receiving operations.
Proven ability to use and leverage information technology concepts such as Internet, Intranet and E-Commerce sales communications vehicles.
Excellent personal computer skills using a variety of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to use computer keyboard/typing skills.
Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment.
