What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mortgage Loan Originator position at Great Oaks Bank?
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the mortgage origination function of the bank. Other responsibilities include working with clients to explain process and answer questions during the process. This position also represents the bank in the community through attendance and participation in community events.
Reports To: Regional President
Lending Activities
· Interviews prospective loan clients.
· Works with prospective loan clients to obtain lending business for the bank.
· Educates prospective clients about the bank’s underwriting guidelines and all applicable government regulations.
· Explains complex approvals or denials to the prospective loan clients.
· Screens mortgage loan requests based on the bank’s or secondary market’s policies and the types of mortgage loans actually offered by the bank.
· Obtains information (e.g., credit reports, background checks) needed regarding prospective loan clients.
· Learns about each customer’s unique financial situation.
· Learns about each customer’s credit and ability to repay their loans.
· Follows the banks lending policies and procedures.

Business Development
· Represents the bank at community functions to enhance its image and develop new lending business.
· Continuously markets the bank’s lending services to the local real estate community (e.g., real estate agents; construction companies).
· Cross-sells the bank’s products and services to customers.
Compliance
· Completes and processes loan applications quickly to achieve compliance requirements.
· Studies new regulations that effect the bank’s lending policies and works with the bank’s management to ensure compliance with the regulations.

Minimum Required Education, Experience, and Skills
· Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
· 5 years of experience in commercial and/or consumer lending or related business experience
· Good interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
· Effective at diplomatic and persuasive communications with customers
· Self-starter with good organizational skills, detail oriented and goal focused
· Proficient with Microsoft Office products and financial spreadsheet programs
