Title: Director of Head Start/Early Head Start Professional Development
Reports to: Associate Director, HS/EHS Programs
FLSA: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Director of Head Start/Early Head Start Professional Development serves as the Coordinator and Monitor of all Head Start/Early Head Start professional development. This includes monitoring a data management system, planning, and coordinating staff development, and providing individual career development.
Job Description:

Learns and adheres to the philosophy and mandates of Head Start and Early Head Start as outlined in the Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and the Policies and Procedures of Greater Bergen Community Action

Monitors compliance with Head Start Performance Standards
-
Maintains knowledge of the current trends and research in ECE
-
Organizes and/or provides staff development and training for all Head Start /Early Head Start staff
-
Tracks all professional development to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, licensing regulations and collaborating BOE requirements.

Ensures all individual Professional Development Plans are completed annually and reviewed by the staff member and his/her supervisor twice during the school year.

Utilizes Head Start iPDU, NJCCIS and, if needed, other learning management systems.

Explore/Utilize all resources on ECLKC to align with OHS compliance re: credentialing.

Responsible for the collection of all mandated Professional Development documentation.

Coordinates with Data Management to ensure all professional development is recorded in Child Plus.

Assists in planning and attends in-service and pre-service training workshops as required and/or requested.

Ensures all staff consultants have sufficient knowledge, training, experience, and competencies to fulfill their roles and positions.

Understands how adults develop and learn in a variety of school, family and community contexts and provides opportunities that support their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.

Creates a learning community in which individual differences are respected.

Knows and understands how education research and other methods of inquiry can be used as a means for continuous learning, self-assessment, and development.

Attends all meetings as specified by supervisor and/or requested by administration.

Is punctual and adheres to the work schedule assigned.

Employs strong oral and written communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft office.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with management, clients, representative of community organizations and other staff members.

Assumes and performs any other additional assignment as directed by supervisor and/or administration to ensure the effective servicing the clients in our care.

Responsible for the overall safety of each child in the GBCA HS/EHS program.

According to the New Jersey mandated reporting guidelines, any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or acts of abuse should immediately report this information to the State Central Registry (SCR). If the child is in immediate danger, call 911 as well as 1-877 NJ ABUSE (1-877-652-2873).
Knowledge of:

Principles and practices involving the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children and adults

Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to Head Start, preschools and childcare

Head Start Performance Standards, licensing requirements and GBCA policies and procedures

Instruction & training of adults in a group setting and/or one-on-one. how adults develop and learn in a variety of school, family and community contexts and provides opportunities that support their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development

Cultural and socio-economic issues relevant to providing appropriate services to special population groups

How student learning is influenced by individual experiences, talents, and prior learning, as well as language, culture, family and community values

Writing, filing, and maintaining concise and accurate reports, correspondence, and other written materials
Qualifications:

Bachelors’ degree in early childhood education or related field

Advanced degree a plus.

Valid NJ driver’s license preferred, local travel in all three counties may be required

High proficiency in Microsoft office suite and familiarity with data management systems

Desire and ability to work with diverse populations

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will also work outdoors with children during some part of the day during each season.
