What are the responsibilities and job description for the Logistics Coordinator position at Green Plains?

Job Description Summary: This position is responsible for gathering and updating information required to assist in the logistics management of multiple production facilities, railcar, and truck shipments.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support to Transportation Manager, Director of Logistics and Marketing staff by communicating railcar positions, schedules and other information as required
  • Analyze and subsequently make sound data-based decisions
  • Coordinate with customers on scheduling deliveries out of production facilities including forecasting, demand planning, and actual execution of the shipments
  • Bill and trace loaded shipments of railcars and trucks to ensure contracts are shipped advantageously to current market conditions
  • Effectively communicate with truck lines and terminals of pending arrivals, projected availability, railcar placement and release; and create documentation
  • Dispatch, coordinate and communicate terminal activities to team
  • Communicate equipment and product availability to merchandising staff
  • Gather information and assist with leased fleet monitoring, bad order cars, shop cars and overall fleet management

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • One to two years of logistics, customer service, or related experience
  • Knowledge of railroad systems and trucking operations is highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Windows environment)
  • Ability to function effectively in time-sensitive, high-pressure situations
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of applicable regulatory requirements of FRA, TTB and state regulations

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job includes but is not limited to: frequent sitting, frequent computer uses, and frequent telephone use
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
  • Ability to work after hours/weekends and on call as needed
