Position Summary
The kitchen aide is responsible to ensure that Center members receive their meals either on site or as grab and go and ensure order and cleanliness in the kitchen and dining area. They are responsible for set up and take down for Center programs and maintaining a clean environment in all other areas of the center.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
Partner with center director to monitor and ensure compliance with NYC Department for the Aging regulatory standards and NYC Board of Health regulations as they relate to food service and building environment.
Prepare, handle, and serve meals.
Receive Food, take temperatures upon arrival and when serving.
Maintain facility cleanliness and readiness. Clean and store all utensils, dishes, and other food service equipment.
Wash, sanitize and set up the dining room area after lunch.
Maintain order and cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room.
Sweep and mop dining room, kitchen, and center spaces.
Set up and take down the dining room and program rooms.
Disinfect and clean dining room table and chairs.
Secondary Responsibilities
Attend and participate in staff meetings and required training as necessary.
Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by Center Director or designee or Director of Senior Services.
Performs other duties and services as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in supervision with supervisor.
- Attend staff meetings and other required training as necessary.
Qualifications
- Must have completed the Board of Health (BOH) Food Preparation Course or be able to complete within first 3 months of employment.
- Must be able to perform physical labor, lift up to 50 lbs. and spend a significant portion of the shift on their feet.
- Able to learn basic tasks and to understand written and oral communications. Able to work effectively and patiently with seniors and volunteers.
Vaccination Requirement
As of October 29, 2021, we are requiring all Greenwich House and Barrow Street Nursery School new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start date.
