PRIMARY FUNCTION :
The primary function of this position is to determine the status of service needed for various equipment components (transmissions, engines, fuel systems, etc.
perform the necessary service, repairs, replacements, installations, or re-building of parts, and to restore the equipment to proper operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to troubleshoot engines, engine fuel systems, and transmissions.
- Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aides to lift or move parts into position to be repaired.
- Use hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, and test parts / equipment on engines, engine fuel systems, and transmissions.
- Set up units in test apparatus, test and verify performance, then pressure wash and repaint parts / equipment.
- Use miscellaneous resources and computers to reference parts, get information about parts, and enter data into record systems.
- Use tools to disassemble / reassemble parts or engines; clean parts with rags, cleaners, and power washers; use test equipment to make diagnostic checks;
and control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
Lift, carry, and mount parts in powered equipment to do necessary grinding, honing, boring, drilling, and polishing, and make replacement parts or refurbish parts before re-assembly.
Reassemble and test units, power wash and paint finished units.
- Use precise measuring tools to determine conditions of all components and to monitor machining work done on components.
- Use hoist and forklift to move the equipment to the test bed and test the equipment.
- Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, change oil, replace filters, belts, coolants, hoses, and may drain / clean / refill fuel systems.
- Pressure wash equipment and paint the equipment for shipment or installation.
- Use instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Education : Must have a high school education or GED.
Work Experience : Six years of experience with at least two years of experience on Cat or other similar equipment.
Physical : Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb beside, onto, and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.
Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
Must be able to routinely and physically lift / position various parts to perform repairs / service and manually handle parts up to 70 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
Other : Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders. Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing / servicing unusual and / or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
Should have exposure to PC-based equipment and parts information.
