GSG is a Charlotte, NC based franchised childcare operations, and real estate development organization. Founded in 2010, GSG engages in multi-unit operations of The Learning Experience childcare franchises (https://thelearningexperience.com) as well as the construction of childcare center buildings in NC and SC. Our active portfolio includes 6 active centers that provide education and care to over 800 children in the Charlotte, Raleigh, and Charleston, SC markets. With another 7 centers under development targeted to open by 2024-2026, GSG is on track to double its business footprint in these 3 key markets.
Corporate Controller
The Controller is a member of the executive team and will have primary day-to-day responsibility for all accounting and finance activities within GSG.
Management & Leadership
- Develop and lead a high-performing accounting and control organization
- Direct responsibility for: accounting systems accounting function, state & federal tax compliance, financial planning, cash management, monthly operating reporting, policies and procedures
- Partner with and support GSG functions (specifically Management and Operations) to identify opportunities to improve policies and procedures
- Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Lead continuous improvement office: Evaluate functions and lead projects/initiatives that improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of GSG
- Identify opportunities/lead initiatives that allow GSG to scale its accounting infrastructure and support its growth strategy
Accounting, Admin & Compliance
- Perform monthly accounting close function, including timely generation of accurate financial statements for management, operating, and real estate entities (P&L and B&S)
- Design and deliver Monthly Operating Reporting package (e.g. , Top Line KPI’s, SG&A KPI’s, management services allocation report, etc.)
- Lead and implement effective internal controls; ensure the GSG maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
- Lead and implement effective data governance: Improve and maintain a global COA and policies that facilitate COA maintenance across multiple legal entities
- Develop and refine GSG’s accounting policies and procedures, and manage partnership with external CPA firm
- Provide management oversight and direction for the GSG’s Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Fixed Asset, and Tax activities
- Supervise cash management activities including the timely collections of receivables, timely funding of payroll, vendor disbursements, compliance with royalty/Ad fund payments, and review of cash balances for adequacy and fund transfer recommendations
- Manage employee benefit payments and deductions; Oversee accurate reconciliation of GSG/Employee benefit contributions
- Ensure successful completion of the GSG’s financial audits, tax returns, and state/federal regulatory filings
- Conduct analytical reviews of the GSG’s operation from a balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow perspective as well as an overall business perspective
- Assist in the GSG’s budgeting and planning process. Review all financial plans and compare to actual and prior year results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
- Complete various accounting and controls processes: intercompany transactions, capitalization, depreciation, amortization,…
- Serve as point of contact with our human resources third-party vendor to ensure compliance with laws and policies
Qualifications
- BS in Accounting; CPA or CMA preferred but not required
- 6-9 years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles
- Strong understanding of GAAP and prior leadership role in financial audits
- Ability to partner with C-suite and manage finance transformation initiatives
- Experience with project management office (PMO) and Project Management concepts: PMP certification is preferred but not required
- Ability to grow and support GSG’s finance organization to scale and support its LRP
- Demonstrated competency working with accounting technology
- QuickBooks
- MicroStrategy or a similar BI tool
- Microsoft Excel: Formulas, functions, and VBA Macro scripts;
- Design/deploy reporting packages
- IT curiosity: Understand new technology (e.g. Proprietary CRM platforms)
- Understanding of human resources policy and compliance
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
