What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Weld Inspector position at GST Manufacturing?
GST Manufacturing has an immediate opening for a Certified Weld Inspector to serve as CWI – Welding Specialist. This person will work in GST’s Quality Assurance Department to complete dimensional and welding reviews for products in process and prior to final shipment. This position reports directly to the QA Manager. Qualified candidates must have significant welding and fabrication experience with a variety of metals (steel, stainless steel and aluminum) and must have been a Certified Weld Inspector for a minimum of five (5) years.
Responsibilities
1. Work with QA Manager to ensure that all projects in process and completed projects are built to print, in tolerance and with specified quality standards.
2. Perform daily floor inspections of welds. Regularly train and correct welders on methods and techniques.
3. Certify welders to appropriate AWS and ASTM codes and standards as directed by QA Manager. Maintain and update welder continuity logs.
4. Complete testing of welds internally and through third party firms as applicable.
5. Complete and update WPS and PQR documentation.
6. Participate in annual internal audits and third-party certification audits, such as American Institute for Structural Steel.
Basic Qualifications
1. At least five (5) years of work as a Certified Weld Inspector
2. Prior experience as a welder
3. Expert level blueprint reading and understanding of GD&T
4. Expert in measuring tools including gauges, calipers, and similar devices
5. Understand WPS and PQR documents
6. Able to fully understand customer specifications and tolerances
7. Complete understanding of AWS and ATSM standards

This is full time hourly position with competitive pay commensurate with experience.
