In this vital role, you will analyze, appraise and assess exposures and acceptable risks for our Nonprofit Human Service Organizations, Education Institutions and Religious Organizations to determine coverage's and premium that are both adequate and competitive. Accounts vary in size, but may include accounts up to $1,000,000 in written premium.
The ideal Underwriter will be a self-starter and have a hunger to drive new business. They will also have at least 3 years of commercial lines underwriting with experience writing business relating to the following:

  • Human Services
  • Arts, Cultures, Humanities
  • Mental Health & Crisis Intervention
  • Youth Development
  • Food, Agriculture & Nutrition
  • Housing & Shelters
  • Education
  • Religious Organizations

As an Underwriter with GuideOne you will:

  • Analyzes exposures, collect additional underwriting information, evaluate and price quotes submitted by agents to select acceptable risks at an adequate premium.
  • Underwrites, prices, processes renewals and new business opportunities.
  • Administers endorsements or changes in policies.
  • Reviews and revises coverage forms and manuscripts to meet the needs of the insureds.
  • Negotiates pricing and coverage options with agents.
  • Builds successful relationships with agents.
  • Collaborates with Sales Directors and Loss Control Representatives to achieve profitable growth.
  • Works extensively with Loss Control to assess exposure.
  • Serves as a mentor for a Underwriting Assistant with the analysis of individual accounts

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years underwriting experience in a Commercial P & C environment.
  • Experience writing business for nonprofits and human services.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or comparable industry experience.
  • Prior experience underwriting education market preferred
  • E&S experience, a plus
  • CPCU or IIA certifications, desired.
  • Ability to convey clear, concise information to others, using verbal or other appropriate communication techniques.
  • Superior negotiation skills.
