WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Lead Cook is a non- exempt position responsible for the preparation of meals for the Unaccompanied Children Program in accordance with health and dietary requirements.
- Responsible for providing task supervision to the kitchen staff.
- The lead cook will plan the Shelter menu on a weekly basis in accordance with dietary guidelines.
- The Lead Cook will ensure food is ordered and delivered twice a week or more if needed.
- The Lead Cook will ensure schedule coverage in the kitchen for all meals on a weekly basis.
- The Lead Cook will be aware of documentation procedures and trainings for himself and the kitchen staff.
- Meal planning and ordering of food in accordance with health, dietary and cultural requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring food pantry is fully supplied for all meals.
- Ensure menus are posted and followed and prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner as needed.
- Prepare meals according to modified diets and controlled portion sizes.
- Responsible for serving clients meals in accordance with their diets in a neat and attractive manner.
- Operate equipment such as stove, grill, conventional oven, microwave, food processor and meat slicer in a safe manner.
- Arrange food in steam table on time, and in a neat and attractive manner.
- Serve clients breakfast, lunch or dinner as assigned.
- Record all menu changes only with the approval of the Program Director.
- Wash pots and pans, clean counters, sinks, stove, refrigerator, freezer and equipment as assigned.
- Must ensure concise and timely completion of all paperwork.

WHAT YOU NEED:
- High diploma or equivalent. One (1) year cooking experience in a health care setting, preferred, and two (2) years experience working with children, highly desired.
- Food Manager certification and CPR/First Aid, preferred.
- Must have experience planning and cooking meals for up to 50 people.
- Have the ability to prepare and cook Creole and Spanish meals.
- Must participate in at least five (5) hours of continuing education/training annually.
- Bilingual communication skills: English/Creole/Spanish, preferred.
- Proof of Immunization for: Varicella (2 doses), MMR (2 dose), Influenza (1 dose yearly), Tdap (1 dose). Must be COVID vaccinated.
