Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans and provides comprehensive patient care. Manages available nursing resources and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to provide quality patient care.
I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Utilizes the nursing process for delivery of patient care:
- Assessment-appropriate to condition, within established timeframe.
- Planning- individualized, pertinent to patient condition, includes teaching needs of patient and family.
- Implementation-conforms to legal requirements of Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act, facility safety and infection control standards.
- Evaluation-documents response and communicates with interdisciplinary team, revises plan as needed.
Completes competencies as requested in a timely manner.
Utilizes appropriate interpersonal skills when collaborating with team members.
Assists other nursing team members through the steps of the nursing process.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and organize time and patient care.
Delegates patient care activities to appropriate personnel and maintains accountability for those activities.
Demonstrates understanding of established facility policy and procedures
Performs nursing measures and care according to safety and infection control standards and hospital policies and procedures.
Manages personnel, equipment, and supplies to assure efficiency and effectiveness, and in a manner ensuring patient safety.
Displays a proper work ethic including promptness, initiative, stewardship of facility property, proper dress, and excellent attendance.
Maintains confidentiality and counsels others when confidentiality is being compromised.
Additional Duties
- Participates in QI activities as required or through documentation.
- Participates in at least 80% of yearly staff meetings and unit activities.
- Oral and written communication is respectful of the needs and concerns of others.
- May function as Charge Nurse.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Qualifications:
- Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing program.
- BLS certification.
- Current Wisconsin licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Basic computer skills.
Work Relationship:
- Works closely with all members of healthcare team including those within and outside of nursing department.
- Frequent contact with employees, patients, family members, medical staff, volunteers and visitors.
Working Conditions:
- Frequently exposed to hazardous material such as needle puncture, blood and body fluids.
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Occasional contact with combative or resistive patients.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent push/pull, stand, walk, reach horizontally. Occasionally bend/stoop, sit. Rare twist, squat, kneel, reach above shoulder level, lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Hand functions: simple and firm grasp, fine manipulation, feel (size, shape, temperature, texture). Near and far hearing and visual acuity. Color discrimination, depth perception. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
