This is a special opportunity to complete the entire
first phase of the two phase hiring process. Conditional job offers may be given during this event. Those attending will complete some or all of the following: physical ability test (obstacle course comprised of 9 interspersed individual tasks), an orientation, more detailed application, credit check, and an oral interview. The entire process typically takes two to three hours, although it may take longer. It is suggested you bring water and a snack. Part of this event will occur outside.
Prior to attending the event, please submit an application. Once an application has been received, an investigator will call to set up an appointment time for the event. Because of COVID precautions, completing on-line applications in our computer lab is no longer an option. Thus, walk-up applicants will be directed to complete the on-line application on their personal device. Those that have submitted applications but do not have an appointment are still welcome although wait times will be longer.
GWINNETT COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT BASICSThe Gwinnett County Police Department is a nationally accredited and rapidly growing police agency located in the northeastern quadrant of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Department has an authorized strength of 878 sworn officers supported by 320 civilian employees with the responsibility of providing law enforcement services to approximately 900,000 residents within an area of 436 square miles. The department is a full service agency with numerous specialized units, to include Computer Forensics, K-9, Aviation, Technology Research, Accident Investigations, Training, S.W.A.T., Crime Prevention, Hazardous Devices, and many more.
Police recruits receive full pay while attending the 21 week academy at the Gwinnett County Police Training Center. After successful completion, the new officer will receive further training with an experienced field training officer for an additional 13 weeks.
APPLICATION PROCESS- PHASE IIThe second phase of the hiring process consists of:
- Polygraph examination
- Psychological evaluation
- Medical evaluation
- Drug and alcohol test
- Reference and education checks
- Employment verification
- Entrance examination (if not exempt)
