Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Florida is recruiting a faculty member (associate or senior rank) Co-Program Leader for a new CCSG program in Metabolism to provide scientific vision and inspiration to guide the faculty towards achievement of institutional mission through pursuit of exceptional science.
Metabolic reprogramming is a hallmark of cancer, and the metabolic needs of proliferating cancer cells can be met with highly adaptive strategies that respond to the dynamic microenvironment. The program in Cancer Metabolism is expected to be unique among cancer centers and will provide a national and international resource for investigating the basic, translational, and clinical applications of cancer metabolism and therapeutic interventions, including diet. It is expected that the Cancer Metabolism program will eventually be comprised of > 24 full-time dedicated and highly collaborative faculty representing multiple disciplines investigating metabolic control, plasticity and therapy in vitro, in animal models, and in human patients. The Metabolism program is expected to be integrated into the Cancer Center Support Grant renewal in 2026.
Position Highlights:
The Program Co-Leader will be a member of the scientific leadership team at Moffitt, with shared responsibility for guiding and facilitating research within the program, recruiting new members, as well as building collaborations with other programs and institutions. Program Co-Leaders will also prepare the relevant sections of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and represent the Program at the CCSG site visit.
The Ideal Candidate:
Successful candidates must have PhD or MD and relevant research and administrative experience. An active, funded research program relevant to Cancer Metabolism and a strong history of peer-reviewed funding and publication are also required. They must be recognized for their successful track record among their peers, but also individuals with vision, verbal and written communication skills, and organizational ability. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated prior leadership and mentoring skills and have engaged in successful collaborative, multidisciplinary research.
Responsibilities:
The administrative duties as Co-Program Leader will require 10% effort, with research, teaching and service comprising 90% effort. These allocations are not fixed, however, and should be reviewed and refined each year in collaboration with the Research Executive (REx) committee. The program will be provided with a pool of pilot funding to be distributed to member faculty at the discretion of the program co-leaders. In addition, the Program Leaders will be expected to develop a pre- and post-doctoral training program as well as training grants with strong organizational and administrative institutional support.
Resources:
The infrastructure at Moffitt is exceptional with 14 well-functioning and highly subsidized shared resources. It is expected that the Metabolism program will require significant additional investments in these resources that are metabolism focused, and these investments will be made as needed to support the development of the program as well as new faculty as appropriate.
Appointment at the level of Associate / Senior Member requires a minimum of five years of experience at the Assistant / Associate Member level and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. It is expected that the Academic appointment for promotion and tenure will be within the Department of Cancer Physiology, although other departments may be considered, if appropriate. This position is tenure-earning. Moffitt is affiliated with University of South Florida and a University appointment is available as applicable. Moffitt-based faculty members focus their efforts on research, with minimal expectations for formal teaching. We offer competitive salaries and benefits, and generous start-up packages.
