What are the responsibilities and job description for the EMT-I/A/Firefighter-Trainee position at Habersham Public Safety?
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for protecting lives and property endangered by emergency situations. This position also must be able to provide a high level of pre-hospital advanced emergency medical care to sick and/or injured patients of all ages within their certification level. They will aid on fire scenes as needed for personnel medical monitoring, rehab and assisting with moving equipment such as ladders, hose, etc. when needed.
Major Duties:
- Administers first aid and CPR.
- Inspects assigned apparatus and equipment; cleans, repairs, and performs routine maintenance on same.
- Performs housekeeping, building maintenance, and grounds keeping duties.
- Participates in and assists with training sessions.
- Prepares incidents reports, gas and vehicle maintenance logs, and other reports.
- Performs all pre-hospital patient care to their level of certification in compliance with Habersham County Emergency Services patient care protocols, as approved by the Emergency Services Director.
- Performs daily inspections of ambulances and on-board supplies and equipment and restocks after each call.
- Completes the State required Patient Care Report on each call dispatched.
- Drives and controls an ambulance.
- Completion of monthly educational requirements and training.
- Complies with State Office of EMS Standards.
- Adheres to department-specific Infection Control guidelines.
- Exhibits an understanding of the Compliance Program and is willing to report compliance issues.
- Understands and demonstrates compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
- Complies with all Patient Safety Standards.
- Maintains department-specific safety issues.
- Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
- Ability to set priorities, solve problems, and respond quickly to emergency requests.
- Ability to assist in meeting the pre-hospital emergency care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, obstetric, rehabilitation, and skilled-nursing patients.
- Performs daily inspections of ambulances and on-board supplies and equipment and restocks after each call.
- Uses all departmental electronic/technology reporting, data scheduling software.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One-year EMT experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Licensure or other Certifications: EMT-I/A certification required.
- Current EMT-I or A registration in the State of Georgia.
- Current CPR and NIMS compliant.
- Ability to complete the Firefighter 1 training program during the first 6 months of hire and meet job requirements for Habersham County Firefighter/EMT-I.
- Will be required to obtain Class F driver's license issued by the State of Georgia following completing of Fire School or prior.
The successful candidate must pass a Background/Reference Check, and Pre-Employment Drug Screenings prior to the start of employment.
