DescriptionThe Energy Efficiency Auditor serves the Greater Omaha community by sustaining safe and affordable housing through energy efficiency upgrades. Experience in Weatherization/Energy Efficiency is NOT required but you must possess an analytical, inquiring and critical mind! Top candidates for this position will have a great imagination and strong problem solving skills, but also a strong technical orientation. If not already in their possession, candidates must be willing to obtain their Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst Energy Auditor certification which includes extensive study, examinations and travel.In this role you’ll provide beneficial services to local homeowners including: completion of home inspections/energy audits, preparing audit reports containing energy analysis results and making recommendations for upgrades and/or services that will result in energy cost savings for families across the Metro. RequirementsPRINCIPLE DUTIES:Compare existing energy consumption levels to standardized data and calculate potential for energy savingsIdentify any health or safety issues related to planned weatherization projectsOperate electronic inspection equipment and software (i.e. data loggers, universal data recorders, light meters, sling psychrometers, psychrometric charts, flue gas analyzers, amp-probes, watt meters, volt meters, thermometers, or utility meters)Collect and analyze field data related to energy usageRecommend energy efficient technologies or alternate energy sourcesMonitor in-progress weatherization/home repair/energy efficiency projects to ensure that they meet Habitat’s quality standardsPerform tests to locate air leaksInspect residential buildings (interior and exterior), mechanical systems, and electrical systems to determine the energy consumption of each system.Prepare audit reports containing energy analysis results and recommendations for upgrades to achieve estimated energy cost savingsEducate customers on energy efficiency or answer questions on topics such as the costs of running household appliances or the selection of energy efficient appliancesComplete ongoing education to maintain education on current technologies and requirements for certificationsPerform Final inspections on the completed project to confirm that the work meets the quality and standers provided by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to communicate effectively with homeowners, co-workers, management, clients, subcontractors and vendorsDemonstrated computer literacy (experience with BuilderTrend, other construction related software and/or Microsoft Office beneficial)Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on timely, correct resultsBrings a conscientious, through and precise approach to each taskHighly-organized and self-disciplined with the ability to work independently EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONBPI Certification required and/or the ability to acquire within one (1) year of position start date. (Habitat will facilitate the acquisition of the BPI Certification if not already held. If certified, candidate must be in good standing at the time of hire with ongoing CEU requirements met.)Valid driver's license and a clear driving record2- years of education from an accredited institution in Energy Efficiency, Building Envelope, Energy Upgrades or similar or commensurate experience of 3-years working in these or similar field, preferred but not required.General knowledge and understanding of energy efficiency modeling, tools and concepts, preferred.Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the Weatherization of homes, is beneficial.Basic knowledge of mathematical applications, required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is often performed in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat and cold, and in unconventional areas such as attics and crawl spaces where the required clearance may be 24 inches.Nature of work requires some exposure to dirty conditions and hazardous materials such as fiberglass, asbestos and lead-based paint.Spends 80-90% of the time standing, walking, crouching or kneeling while on the job. Frequently climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, reaches, and handles while performing weatherization duties in cramped and unconventional work areas. Must be able to safely function over extended periods while wearing personal protective equipment, including a full-face respirator. Must be able to lift up to 50 lb. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication.
