POSITION SUMMARY:
The Commodity Specialist is responsible for overall supply chain, vendor management, commodity management and purchasing activities. This includes establishing and maintaining strategic sourcing relationships with emphasis on quality, delivery and cost. Responsibilities also include helping to define, develop and refine the purchasing system to meet the needs of internal and external customers. Lead projects designed to change the paradigm of the current purchasing process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishes and maintains supply system as assigned to ensure uninterrupted supply of required materials.
Makes independent decisions to place and maintain purchase orders to support ongoing material supply including long-term contracts. Determines appropriate amount of inventory to support production and manage risk.
Monitors supplier performance holds supplier accountable for performance levels.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate is a talented professional who can develop talent, foster innovation and deliver results.
BS or BA degree (preference in Supply Chain, Materials, Logistics, or other Business-related field) and 4 or more years of experience as Buyer/Planner/Materials Management
or
two-year degree and 6 or more years as Buyer/Planner/Materials Management
SKILLS:
APICs or ISM certification preferred
Knowledge and use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.
In-depth Knowledge of Hach Purchasing Controls Procedures/Processes
In-depth knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, including MRP, min-max, Kanban, inventory management, and planning systems
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to multi-task
