What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Hach?

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Commodity Specialist is responsible for overall supply chain, vendor management, commodity management and purchasing activities. This includes establishing and maintaining strategic sourcing relationships with emphasis on quality, delivery and cost. Responsibilities also include helping to define, develop and refine the purchasing system to meet the needs of internal and external customers. Lead projects designed to change the paradigm of the current purchasing process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishes and maintains supply system as assigned to ensure uninterrupted supply of required materials.

Makes independent decisions to place and maintain purchase orders to support ongoing material supply including long-term contracts. Determines appropriate amount of inventory to support production and manage risk.

Monitors supplier performance holds supplier accountable for performance levels.

Maintains open lines of communication with suppliers for prompt resolution of quality or delivery problems

Places purchase orders and follows through on expedite orders

Maintains high level of knowledge about commodity suppliers and market conditions to support strategic sourcing decisions; co n d ucts r e s e a r c h t o u n d er s ta n d overa l l su p p l y m a r k et d y n a m i c s a n d m a k e s i n d e p e n d e n t d e c i s i o ns on pro c ure m e n t m at t er s.

Negotiates with suppliers to attain lowest possible total cost for purchased commodities.

Maintains supply system database for proper sourcing, procurement lead times, order quantities, prices and internal delivery requirements.

Assists with action plans, root cause and countermeasures for objectives.

Structure new items within the system as required supporting new product development.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate is a talented professional who can develop talent, foster innovation and deliver results.

BS or BA degree (preference in Supply Chain, Materials, Logistics, or other Business-related field) and 4 or more years of experience as Buyer/Planner/Materials Management
or

two-year degree and 6 or more years as Buyer/Planner/Materials Management

SKILLS:
APICs or ISM certification preferred

Knowledge and use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.

In-depth Knowledge of Hach Purchasing Controls Procedures/Processes

In-depth knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, including MRP, min-max, Kanban, inventory management, and planning systems

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Ability to multi-task
