Hacienda CDC is searching for a Controller who will manage a team and oversee the day-to-day operations of its accounting department. The ideal candidate will excel at problem-solving, multitasking, relationship building and have a real estate or non-profit background.

Your duties will include collaborating to create internal controls and guidelines, working closely with senior leaders and managers to monitor grant spending, and ensuring payroll is processed timely and in compliance with tax and legal guidelines. Additionally, you will play a key role in our budget preparation and annual audit processes.

The Controller is a full-time position eligible for our complete benefits package (see below). The position is primarily in person. Remote work may be available up to two days per week. This position reports to, works closely with the CFO, and manages the accounting team of four.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Participate in the annual budget process.
  • Responsible for the payroll function, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with tax and legal guidelines.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, directors, and managers to monitor grant spending.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to perform month-end closing duties.
  • Process ACH payments and reconcile bank accounts.
  • In charge of producing financial reports for internal processes and grant management. 
  • Lead the accounting team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and overseeing work and performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • A minimum of six years of experience in accounting is required.
  • A background in non-profit or real estate accounting is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience with full supervisory duties is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desired.
  • Housing or social service background is a plus.
  • Highly experienced using advanced Excel functions is required.
  • Ability to learn or experience using Abilla MIP Fund Accounting software or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with Microix, GNSA, Paylocity, or similar programs is desired.
  • Complete understanding of chart of accounts and maintenance and the ability to translate economic activity into journal entries.  
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize a high-volume workload, and adapt to change.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and enjoys working in teams and individually.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, OMB, and government standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn the administration and loan closing process in relation to affordable housing tax credit finance investments.
  • Familiarity with Low Income Housing Tax Credit and New Markets Tax Credit structure is a plus.

  • Spanish/English bilingual is a plus but not required.

Hacienda CDC headquarters are located in the Cully neighborhood, near the Portland Airport.

Hacienda CDC is a Latino-led Community Development Corporation that strengthens families by providing affordable housing, homeownership support, economic advancement and educational opportunities.

Hacienda CDC was formed in 1986 to provide necessary housing and supportive services in Cully, a low-income, predominantly Latinx community. Today we have 11 affordable housing communities with over 730 affordable rental homes in North and Northeast Portland, Gresham, and Molalla, serving over 2,100 people each year, and new affordable homes in development in Oregon City. PAY:

The salary and wage range Hacienda advertises for the position means that the starting pay offered to the candidate will fall within the range posted. We recognize that each candidate brings with them a unique combination of experiences, education, skills, and abilities; therefore, the offer will be tailored to the individual.

A bilingual Spanish premium of up to 3% is available after 90 days upon successful completion of a language assessment. (According to policy, even if language is not required or preferred, a person can get a 1% increase).
