Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Acute hospital experience preferred. Three years of nursing experience preferred. Oncology experience preferred. Breast Health experience preferred.
- IV certification. Strong computer skills
Required Certification/Licensing:
- NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License - RN LIC 1
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification - BLS
A day in the life of a Nurse Navigator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Assists physicians and technologists during all breast interventional procedures. Participates in pre biopsy assessment, post biopsy care and patient follow up. Oversees adherence to organizational standards regarding universal protocol and NPSG. Administers PPD and Flu shots to staff.
- Serves as a liaison between the breast imaging and surgical teams. Maintain effective physician relationships. Assess and assist patients and their families to identify barriers hindering successful completion of breast evaluation and treatment. Provides information and referrals to appropriate resources. Assist radiologists with diagnostic patient communications. Serve as a resource to patients while providing comfort and kindness.
- Tracks biopsy outcomes, records pathology results and problem case resolutions. Assists in maintaining accreditation in ACR and MQSA Responsible for compliance with JCAHO and CMS standards and regulations with regard to patient safety and medications. Actively participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives to improve patient outcomes and department efficiency. Updates BC staff on any new policy or standard related to nursing, infection control and JCAHO and State compliance.
- Works with the department manager towards the success of departmental and organizational goals. Assume leadership responsibilities as needed. Completes e learnings on time.

- Competent in the use of Clinstar, PHS, MRS, PACS, HPF, API and the Cyraphone
