SUMMARY
Will provide a safe and educational experience for the members and guests through the management of the staff, horses, and the facility. Supervises and coordinates activities of employees (Barn Manager, Trail Guide and Equestrian Assistant) providing horseback riding services to the members and guests, maintenance of stables and care of horses. Cares for horses and maintains stable and pasture conditions to protect the health and appearance of the horses and the facility by performing the following duties in a safe and efficient manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.
Develops programs for members and guests including, but not limited to, lessons, guided trail rides, carriage rides, clinics, kid’s camp, event functions, etc.
Develops and maintains annual operating budget. Responsible for tracking revenues and expenses. Uses POS system to capture incoming revenue generated from above activities.
Establishes amount and type of rations and supplements to feed animals according to health, age, activity, and size of animals.
Inspects animals for evidence of disease, illness, or injury and treats animals according to experience or following instructions of a veterinarian.
Schedules routine health care visits including veterinary (vaccinations, Coggins, fecal screening), dental (teeth floating), and farrier work. Schedules emergency medical visits as needed.
Maintains medical records for each horse.
Inspects horses and stables for cleanliness.
Inspects riding equipment, harnesses, and carriages. Performs or arranges for necessary maintenance to be performed.
Inspects paddock conditions. Arranges for fertilization, maintenance of irrigation, maintenance of fences, removal of manure, elimination of fire ants, mowing, blowing, and weed‐eating.
Maintains associate’s schedule and time records. Prepares bi‐weekly payroll.
Attends to administrative duties including billing for services, ordering supplies, and processing of invoices, answering the telephone, and e‐mail.
Schedules and teaches lessons (English and Western), conducts trail rides, pony rides, clinics, and carriage tours.
Exercises/ rides horses as needed. Arranges and maintains an exercise schedule.
Feeds and waters animals. Measures, mixes, and apportions feed and feed supplements to feeding instructions.
Washes, brushes, trims and curries horses’ coats to clean and improve their appearance. Performs hoof care.
Saddles and bridles riding horse(s) (English and/or Western), harnesses carriage horse(s).
Cleans and sanitizes food and water containers.
Cleans horses’ quarters daily and replenishes bedding as needed. Daily pasture maintenance.
Unloads and stores feed, hay, bedding, and supplies. Facilitates transportation of feed and hay to stables.
Whitewashes fences/ stables.
Cleans saddles, bridles, harness equipment, and carriages. Washes/dries saddle pads, blankets, and girths.
Develop and maintain referral partnerships with local stables for trail riding and boarding opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in Equine management or an equivalent management course, riding, teaching, grooming, and barn/pasture maintenance is required. Knowledge of English and Western disciplines and their equipment, and
harnessing for draft type carriage driving.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Equivalent combination of education and experience; High school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least one year of related experience and or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence including email. Ability to effectively present information in one‐on‐one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to answer questions and exhibit logic and problem-solving communication skills effectively over the phone and in‐person.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
