The Line Chef will be responsible for preparing wholesome, flavorful meals for residents in a care home in accordance with their dietary requirements, and with Hale Ku’ike’s mission, facility standards, procedures and resident care plans.
Primary Job Functions
- Consult with supervisor to plan menus and determine meal counts
- Prepare and cook meals according to cycle menus
- Oversight of kitchen operations for the entire facility
- Verify that prepared food meets requirements for nutrition, quality and quantity
- Clean, stock, and restock workstations and service areas
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
- Thorough clean up and station breakdown, adhering to all sanitation guidelines
- Accept and inspect delivery of supplies. Notify delivery person and supervisor about any problems with deliveries
- Assist with receiving, unloading, transferring deliveries and inventory
- Coordinate kitchen operations with managers so as not to disrupt residents
- Substitute or assist line chefs at other locations during emergencies or rush periods
- Other job duties as assigned
Physical, Mental, and Communication Demands
- Requires frequent lifting and moving of boxes, bags, crates, and equipment up to 50 lbs. unaided and 75 lbs. with assistance; pushing and pulling carts up to 100 lbs.
- Requires standing and walking for up to 8 hours during the 10-hour shift with frequent reaching above head-level
- Working in an environment with sharp blades and high temperature equipment
- Requires learning unique dietary department operations for elderly residents
- Must follow specific instructions and safety procedures, working within specific routines and guidelines
- Requires excellent communication skills across all levels of the company
- Must be a reliable team player and maintain a positive and professional approach with residents and fellow staff members
- Ability to adjust to a dynamic work environment
- Readiness and critical thinking to resolve unforeseen situations and circumstances that may arise
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred but not required
- Completion of a culinary education is preferred but not required
- Tuberculosis clearance as specified by Department of Health
- Physician’s health clearance
- COVID-19 vaccine and booster required
- Successful background check, in accordance with local laws/regulations
- Prior work experience in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets or related experience in a similar type of facility is preferred
- Ability to meet the physical and mental abilities of the job (reasonable accommodation for qualified disabilities will be considered by the employer on an individual basis as provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act)
Compensation
Wages start at $18.00/hr commensurate with education and experience.
