HLR is looking for a confident Financial Controller to manage our organization's financial performance and direct our accounting operations. The Financial Controller will manage accounting records, evaluate and manage risk, ensure compliance with regulations, prepare financial statements and reports, analyze financial data, monitor expenditure, forecast revenue, coordinate the auditing processes, and ensure accuracy of financial information. As part of our management team, the Financial Controller works with our CEO, Bookkeeper, and other key team members to aid our organization in maintaining positive revenue and financial growth, formulating sound financial strategies, implementing proper internal
controls, achieving organizational targets, and developing financial plans that support organizational strategy.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, a flair for numbers, be highly organized, and have excellent communication skills. The noteworthy Financial Controller should streamline our accounting functions and operations, provide financial analysis and reports, promote regulatory compliance, and drive income generation. (The Financial Controller will train alongside our current Financial Controller and Bookkeeper for a transition period of approximately 2 years as our current Financial Controller prepares for retirement.

Education
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting or Finance.
Required Experience and Skills
• 5 years of work experience with professional services organization.
• Proven experience in finance management.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals.
• Auditing experience.
• Compliance oriented.
• Proficiency in accounting software.

Nice-to-Haves
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
• Knowledge of Paylocity online payroll and HR software or other payroll platform
• Knowledge of Deltek Vision/VantagePoint or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform
• Experience with an architecture or engineering firm in Illinois.
• Knowledge of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) procedures.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledge of Federal and State tax laws.
