Description:

The Outsourced/ Fractional Controller supports and advises a select group of clients to navigate growth with confidence and advance to the next level.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the client CEO/founders and their leadership team to gain an understanding of every aspect of the client’s company and a vision of the company history, status, and objectives – get to know their business as a foundation for providing holistic business solutions
  • Build and maintain collaborative client relationships with cross-functional teams of the client, based on an understanding of the clients’ business, a desire to walk in their shoes and an ability to communicate data clearly and effectively
  • Develop and monitor work programs, budgets and engagement teams for special projects and outsourced accounting engagements
  • Establish adequate and effective internal controls, policies, and procedures relative to the client financial reporting process and risk environment
  • Deliver and review with the clients’ their month-end close, financial reporting packages and KPIs for small- to mid-market businesses, startups, and entrepreneurial clients
  • Analyze and review monthly financial results and variation analyses with clients, make recommendations, and assist or support the client leadership team to identify the path and the levers to sustainable growth, profitability, and other objectives
  • Provide Finance Organization Assessments to establish the necessary infrastructure for internal controls and sustainable growth
  • Serve as project manager for a wide variety of client projects
  • Provide recommendations for best practices and streamlined accounting processes for financial reporting, compliance, and internal control adequacy and efficiencies
  • Provide consultation and implementation support for accounting system best practices, selection, and implementation
  • Assist in research of new accounting guidance, technical accounting transactions and reporting rules and regulations
  • Assist in the calculation and reconciliation of share-based compensation expense and schedules
  • Research, analyze and document complex company transactions
  • Coordinate and assist with external auditors; prepare footnotes to financial statements
  • Think innovatively and seek continual practical improvements through technology in workflow and deliverables
  • Prepare engagement proposals
  • Maintain a hands-on approach and a commitment to understand the clients’ evolving business
  • Keep informed and analyze the impact of financial reporting developments and new accounting pronouncements and requirements
  • Be a fanatic about accuracy, precision, and timeliness
  • Mentor & provide oversight to other engagement team members
  • Provide clients and team members with a WOW experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA license or CMA certification
  • Minimum 8 years of public and industry experience
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Curiosity about the business world and ability to understand the workings of a business if explained by a client or a CFO
  • Proven record as a project manager and leader
  • Familiarity with the principles of corporate strategy and the ability to translate business ideas into forecasts and models
  • Demonstrated experience managing and advising multiple clients
  • Practical knowledge of setting up accounting processes and policies within an organization and application of GAAP
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
  • Technology driven and astute; highly proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel, including Pivot & VLOOKUP), QuickBooks Desktop and Online, Xero and cloud technology tools, with demonstrated ability to embrace new systems, processes, technology, and ideas
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively in a remote team/client organization using tools such as MS Teams and Zoom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience translating financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance individuals
  • Empathetic, with the ability to see the big picture, and understand how things relate and affect one another within the clients’ books and their business
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills; independent problem solver with good judgment and the ability to know when to escalate an issue to the partner on a client account
  • Must be an independent, resourceful self-starter, and desire to participate in a dynamic team environment with high ethical standards and Core Values that mirror those of our firm
