POSITION TITLE: Service Manager
DEPARTMENT: Service
REPORTS TO: General Manager

PURPOSE:
The responsibilities of the service manager are vehicle owner loyalty, department profitability, employee satisfaction, protection of the dealer’s service investment, knowledge and performance of technicians, workshop utilization, workshop condition, meeting time promises to customers, workshop capacity utilization, vehicle function testing, labor and parts sales, warranty claim acceptance, customer relations and information, accuracy of financial transactions, security of cash funds, performance of assigned work, adherence to correct repair procedures, diagnostic assistance, quality assurance, work area housekeeping.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
■ Supervise and manage department.
■ Establish financial and operational objectives, prepare monthly forecasts.
■ Evaluate performance of department through operational and financial statistical tools.
■ Evaluate customer surveys and other follow-up programs.
■ Maintain general management and Mazda reporting systems.
■ Interview and train keypersonnel.
■ Evaluate performance of employees based on job descriptions and department objectives.
■ Review compensation with employees and discuss career opportunities and career paths.
■ Outline training program for employees, and coordinate in and out of dealership technical training.
■ Conduct shop meetings weekly.
■ Support personnel recruitment activity; maintain working relationship with vocational and
technical schools.
■ Assist with service marketing activities.
■ Prepare pricing guides and menus for frequent labor operations.
■ Oversee department correspondence and files.
■ Asist in resolution of customer problems and complaints.
■ Promote the sales of labor, parts, and accessories to meet customer needs.
■ Monitor shop capacity and provide information to service consultants.
■ Assist technicians as appropriate on the job; provide technical information; ensure use of correct tools and equipment.
■ Monitor technician efficiency and provide assistance for improvement.
■ Keep workshop technical information updated.
■ Maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop, technicians’ facilities, and service parking lot.
■ Assist with diagnosis of difficult and unusual malfunctions.
■ Monitor completed repair orders. Compare labor operations to parts issued. Determine flat rate to be charged. Resolve discrepancies.
■ Calculate technician efficiency and productivity and maintain required summaries.
■ Prepare warranty claims in accordance with standard procedures. Maintain campaign records.
QUALIFICATIONS:

■ Education and/or Experience. One year certificate from college or technical school; or one or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
■ Language Skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
■ Mathematical Skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
■ Reasoning Ability. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
