What you'll do
- Reviews business loan applications and supporting financial statements to develop information sufficient to determine the borrowing capacity, capitalization, and cash flow dynamics of the applicant. This includes consulting with members and prospective members to determine their financial borrowing needs, collecting necessary loan application information and advising on the selection of appropriate lending products. Assists applicants with any loan related questions and concerns.
- Endeavors to expand HFCU's commercial deposits and lending business. This includes cultivating relationships with an existing portfolio and developing a portfolio of new business with direction provided by the SVP, Commercial Lending, to achieve a balance between measured growth and asset quality, while maintaining desired levels of member satisfaction. Engage in at-office and on-the-road business development activities necessary to successfully generate loan and deposit growth from small to medium sized Borrowers.
- Assists in the organization and administration of Hanscom FCU’s Business Services and Commercial Lending portfolio including ongoing maintenance of up-to-date Borrower credit and loan documentation files, preparing for internal and external audits, etc.
- Helps to facilitate the ordering of appraisals and environmental reports during the underwriting process as well as initial review for completeness of loan, and correct structure documentation prepared for loan closings. Includes follow-up as necessary and acting as liaison with business members and external professionals including appraisers, environmental engineers, attorneys, CPA’s and other third parties involved with the commercial loan application and closing process. Prepares pipeline reports, helps to populate loan approval memorandums including relationship overview (DDA’s, Consumer Loans, Commercial Loans, etc.) as well as other reports that may arise. Assures that assigned projects are completed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner by compiling information and preparing it in final format.
- In conjunction with other HFCU Commercial Lending staff, interact effectively with branch and other HFCU employees to help them better understand commercial lending. Maintain ongoing contact with targeted referral and HFCU member base to expand member business relationships, ensure member retention and meet financial goals and objectives, including active participation in civic organizations. Actively pursue more complicated leads from HFCU Branches, HFCU Call Center, other HFCU departments as well as unsolicited member business loan requests.
- Maintains ongoing HFCU Business Services and Commercial Lending product & service knowledge. Attends appropriate training to further lending skills, underwriting and appraisal review. Strong leadership skills with the ability to promote teamwork and coach credit union colleagues in other departments that might become involved in business loan marketing activities.
- Performs such other duties and tasks as requested, assigned or as necessary from time to time.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required:
- Strong desire to work in a purpose driven organization.
- 10 years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience with at least 6-8 years of credit and commercial lending in a financial institution; credit union experience preferred.
- Strong leadership qualities with a big picture and pragmatic approach, leading effectively through setting a vision and coaching, motivational techniques, and conflict management.
- Demonstrated capability and passion for developing talent and a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engagement.

- Must become registered as a Hanscom Federal Credit Union Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
- Construction and Development experience a plus; however, not required.
Education/Certifications/Licenses:
Bachelor’s degree in business and/or relevant Commercial Lending experience required.
