We are looking for a collaborative, respectful, and driven Level Designer who will help us craft new worlds! 

As a level designer at Hardsuit Labs, you are an innovative, original thinker who constantly advocates for the player.  You are an integral part of a communicative, collaborative, and forward-looking team committed to building first-in-class experiences in a first-in-class work environment.  You are responsible for designing and developing levels and player experiences from inception to completion and owning that player experience throughout.  In this role you will tirelessly advocate for the player and constantly collaborate with all other disciplines to ensure a highest quality player experience.  Your work will involve everything from ideation and documentation, layout and whiteboxing, flow and pacing, environment and scripted storytelling, quests, player navigation, combat encounters, AI, scripting, and performance work.   In this role you will work with like-minded, motivated teammates who have the shared goal and purpose of making great games in a healthy, satisfying, fun and energizing way. 

What You Will Be Doing 

  • Conceptualization, documentation and ideation of levels and spaces 
  • Designing and implementing spaces, gameplay, and POIs within large, open world and sandbox levels 
  • Whiteboxing, pacing, layout beats, scripting, encounters, gameplay implementation 
  • Testing, debugging, level performance, streaming and optimization 
  • Environmental storytelling, world building, tone, setting, art propping 
  • Collaboration with other departments to achieve end user experience goals 
  • Manage and maintain work and documentation in JIRA and Confluence 

What You Will Bring 

  • Experience conceptualizing, developing, and shipping levels end to end 
  • Excellent sense of 3D game space, pacing, flow, immersion, and aesthetics 
  • Strong understanding and comfort with technical concepts, logic and logic flow 
  • Excellent collaborator - able to work across disciplines as a team player 
  • Pro-active and strong problem solver who will see problems through until resolved 
  • Self-directed and able to be productive and effective even when the path ahead is not obvious 
  • Respectful, collaborative, go-getter who generates quality results in a positive and inclusive manner 

Nice to Haves  

  • Significant UE4 experience  
  • Experience working in open world or large collaborative levels 
  • Experience in other development roles - production, engineering, QA 
  • Experience in developing networked games and cooperative experiences 
  • Capable with Maya / Max or 3D software equivalent. 
  • Console development experience
